Guest guest
Hare Krishna. We have a list of offerable and unofferable flowers in the pancaratra pradipika. I don't recall the exact page numbers. A rule of the thumb is light coloured flowers which have a pleasing scent. Hope this link helps, http://krishnascience.com/Vaisnava%20Library/Deity%20worship/Puja%20book%20-%20Pancaratna%20Pradipa.htm its an online book, a little hard to read because of the small font size. Your query invokes huge thinking. I put below some humble thoughts that will clarify to you on " suitable flowers " to lord's lotus feet. Your self, devotees, Acharyaas and Scholars may please review and enlighten further. Start from (1) No flower is rejected by Lord. That means all flowers are suitable to Him (2) They are His creation. They are His. He is father and Mother of all, including the flowers. Can you disown some thing of your OWN. (3) Each flower has a God's purpose for it. Are we able to qualify or disqualify Lord's creation? (4) When we offer flowers - we are only carrying them nearer to His lotus feet and probably decorating His presence in front of us. This has a service point - " we liked this some thing near His lotus feet, that will also please others " (5) When we carry them with our folded hands - here come the events - we choose, pick, make them in shapes and garlands, and place before Lord (6) Next day put them back to mother earth and offer a fresh set of flowers. (7) In the process we choose the one's we like best, with highest level devotion. When we choose as per our senses and knowledge, we might make mistakes in identifying. (8) Pick the flowers that are beautiful, better smelling, more soft, colourful, matching, small and big as we perceive them limiting to our senses and thinking. (9) What we like, will Lord Ranganatha Like? is a billion dollar question. (10) I do not intend to confuse or leave you without a satifying answer. Now look at some terms widely used - Lord's Lotus feet, Tulasi maalai, Vaijayanthi maalai and similar. They have references from scriptures and Vedas. They put the flowers TULASI-LOTUS on top of the list. As per nice smelling SAMAPGI (yellow with dominant smell), MALLI (jasmine), Rose are offerred. Colourful - Mandaaram (Red and big with 5 petals), Garuda vardan (Whitish yellow), Other white or yellow colored flowers are preffered. WHEN YOU DO THE CHOICE FOR LORD - You will observe you spend time in picking the best out of many. All are from BHUMIDEVI (mother earth and Lord's consort), sprouting up taking water and looking forward into sky to reah Lord's Lotus feet. Piraatti is born from on a Lotus flower. Periyalwar, Thondaradippodi alwar and Andal preffered TULASI maaali. None of them disqualified any flower to reach Lord. All folwers are made in the form of garland (some bringing together)and put in addition to ornaments. The flowers have short life and every flower loves to reach Lord Ranaganatha's feet. The short life gives oppurtunity to the mother TREE to make one more flower for the Lord. Look at every day many trees make different folwers and ready to send them to Lord. You come in between as a carrier and the flower attract you to take them nearer to His lotus feet. Tulasi is said to born along with Piratti (Mahalakshmi), Kalpatharu, Kamadhenu, Amritham when SAGARA MATHANAM was done. Lord Vishu was in the form of KOORMAVARTHARA, MOHINI at that time. He prefers TULASI more than any thing else. Next is Lotus. A next is every thing else. The more you reflect on flowers, you will realise thay YOUR SELF is a flower destined to go to Lord Ranganath's Lotus feet. Lord ranganatha shall bless all of us. ~ Ever humble to all devotees. Guest guest
SrI: SrImathE Gopaladesika mahadesikaya nama: Dearest all, On this context of flowers: Here is the beautiful post by Sri Vijayaraghavan Swamy of USA sharing with you: there are eight different kinds of flowers that please our Lord Vishnu the most. I learned this from Vatsya Varadhacharya's treatise on Prapannamrutham. I have long been trying hard to acquire these flowers and offer it to Lord Vishnu but haven't quite succeeded. I do not know which Nursery will have these flowers. They say that it requires a special soil and a temperate climate to grow these flowers. May be you can help me. The flowers are: Ahimsa Prathamam Pushpam (Non-violence) Pushpam Indriya Nigraha (Sense-control) Sarvabhuta Daya Pushpam (Compassion to fellow beings) Kshama Pushpam Visheshathaha (Patience) Jnanam Pushpam (Right knowledge) Tapaf Pushpam (Penance) Shanthi Pushpam Thathaiva cha (Inner peace) Satyam Ashtavidham Pushpoho (Truth) Vishnoho Preetikaram Bhavet My intuitive feeling tells me that I have already located the Nursery (this group) and that the special soil is the sat-sangh it affords. May my heart provide the right kind of climate for the plant to grow and bring forth the flowers that pleases our Lord the most. Nice, isn't it?
