Guest guest Posted April 8, 2009 Report Share Posted April 8, 2009 ---------- இனà¯à®±à¯ (8.4.2009) பஙà¯à®•à¯à®©à®¿ உதà¯à®¤à®¿à®°à®®à¯ சேரà¯à®¤à¯à®¤à®¿à®¤à¯ திரà¯à®¨à®¾à®³à¯  Today is Panguni Uttiram day - a very auspicious day for Goddess Shri Ranganayaki. In the legends of Srirangam, one of the most favorite incidents that happened today is described below- Goddess Ranganayaki is upset with the Lord since he had just returned after visiting Shri Kamalavalli Thayar at Woraiyur/r. So Goddess Shri Ranganyaki refuses all gifts from the Lord and closes the door of her sanctum. The Lord tries to appease her with no avail. All his advances are spurned and she asks him to go back to where he was yesterday: Orayur.  Lord Ranganatha innocently insists that he has neither seen nor heard of Woraiyur .Shri  Ranganyaki(Periya pirattiauar) asks the Lord to prove this and lord offers to 1;. Put his hand in a vessel of snakes 2. Cross any ocean & .Promise that he has not seen Woraiyur in the name of his devotees.  Shri Ranganyaki Thayaar is visibly annoyed and retorts that with him having his bed rest as Adisesha- no snake would dare bite him. Further he lies on the great milk ocean and it would be easy for him to cross any body of water- Even the great river Yamuna had parted when he was just a baby as Krishna.  Also, no devotee who is yearning for his feet would dare vouch against him. In anger, she throws milk, curds, garlands and butter on the Lord.   The Lord turns away and says that it is her loss not having his affection. Nammazwar (Sadagopan), watching all this, tries to mediate between the warring couple. He says the Lord belongs to the universe and all its inhabitants and not to the Goddess alone. He prays that Thayar invite the Lord in and treat him well.  Shri Ranganayaki Thayaar understands her mistake and commands her assistants to bring the Lord in. When the Lord enters the sanctum and he sees Rangayaki thayar it is very auspicious and is known as 1 stAkantham .. They exchange garlands, Kasthuri  thilakam, Turmeric  and Sandal Chandanaman &  Jwellerey.  After this meeting, the Lord wants to go to the Panguni Uttiram Mandapam. Since the world might be angry at her, Thayar insists that she walk to the Mandapam hiding by the shadow of the Lord. This is called 2nd Akantham  At the Mandapam, Ramanujar prays to Gadyathrayam is called 1. Sriranga Gadhyam,2. Vaikuntha Gadhyam and 3. Saranagathi Gadhyam. The Divine Couples ( Divya Thambathigal) on a golden seat are Thirumanjanam (Bathed) in holy water. Various offerings are given to the couple and this is Called 3. Akantham . Next Day early Morning Sri ranganayakiThayaar leaves for her sanctum and lord wants to go his Chariot (Go ratham). So he circumambulates TThayaar's  sanctum and has one last look and a long goodbye to Periya pirattiyar We need to have more than Two eyes in this Event to watch.  I pray that the Divine Couple (Sri Ranga Divya Thambathigal) shower their blessings on anyone who reads this story and I pray that all of you visit Srirangam at least once on Panguni Uttiram day. sorry lot of pictures.
