Let us all be happy, healthy and prosperous and engage in greater kainkaryams to Bhagavaan and Bhaagavatas in the year ahead.As you all know, Sri Seva Swamigal has composed a StOtra, "Akshaya Aaraadhanam" in which he has used the names of all the 60 years of our almanac. virOdhi parihaara krit vijayatE hi bhoo maNDalE virOdhi parihaarata: sakala divya sooktishu asou/ vibhaati vibutOttamO vishamadaadi dhoora sthitO visaala guNa sEvati: manasi vEDa chooDaa guru:// Meaning Swami Desika demolished all hostile elements. He wrote a remarkable work called “VirODha Parihaaram”. He shone as the greatest among the erudite elite of the world. He was totally devoid of all defects and mischievous tendencies. He set an example of an extremely generous and liberal disposition. May he guide us. The traditional Panchangams, of course, usually give their "veNbas" that do not instill much of sanguine prognosis of the year ahead. More often than not, the frightening prospects or the more welcome scenario predicted therein normally do not come true! As usual, the VeNbaa for VirOdi year seems to instill some hope and predict some warnings as well. It reads as follows: neeDu virOdi nilathin mazhai miguti mEDu kaaDellaam viLaivu uNDaam – neeDum arasar pOraalE azhiyum ulagam tiramigu nOi sErumena cheppu. Meaning: In this VirOdi year, there will be abundant rainfall all over the world. Crops will be plentiful everywhere - in high grounds and rain forests. But, due to fierce war among the rulers, it would appear to devastate the whole world which will meet with unprecedented disease and pestilence. Let us hope and pray that the first part of the predictions come true and the latter part do not!Let us all rededicate ourselves at the lotus feet of the Divya Dampatis.
