- Dear Srirangangasri members and friends, My Saashtaanga Namaskaram to Periya perumal and Sri Periya Paratiyaar I pray to our Nam perumal and Sriranga Naachiyaar to bless all of us with Prosperity, Happiness, and purify us from all the evil thoughts!

Sorry for the delayed mailToday on this pleasant  day of Chitra Pournami day and our Namperumal started from the Moolasthanam at around 8:00 AM and went all the way to Ammamandapam, on the way he stopped at many places and gave blessing to the people. Ammamandapam is located besides Cauvery, the main reason is to enjoy the plesant breeze near the holy Cavery river. At Ammamandapam Thiruvadhanam was done which was followed by naivedhyam and koshti.

Why is chitra Pournami celebrated?Chitra Pournami is celebrated in Tamil Month Chithirai (April–May) This is actually the enactment of Gajendra Moksham. It shows how Lord Sriman Narayana Cares a lot for his Devotees. The Background story is Once there lived a Elephant named Gajendra and it is very much attached to the Lord Sriman Narayana and He daily picks the Lotus from the river and offers it in Lords feet. Then one fine day a crocodile catches its feet and drags it to river and elephant tires to go back to banks. then at last Gajendra cries for help to Maha Vishnu saying ADHI MOOLAME and as usual our Lord who is very compassionate to his Devotees ( human beings , rishis or devathas or Animals) comes in Garuda Roopam and kills the crocodile , gives Moksham to both Elephant and crocodile who were actually Gandharvas and due to curse they were born as Elephant and crocodile , This is enacted in banks of Cauvery.

Later in the afternoon he blesses the Elephant Andal, and this event is called as gajendra Moksham. At arond 9:00 PM he reaches back to the Sanctum after blessing the people of srirangam.

Gunaseelam is a place that is close by Srirangam where resides Lord Srinivasa generally called as Prasanna venkateswara. This place is closely associated with Asylum, where the people who are mentally retarded are brought and because of the blessings of Prasanna Venkatesan most of them get cured and are back to normal. Theppa utsavam is a famous festival that is being celebrated at Gunaseelam.
