Dear sri vaishNava

perunthagaiyeer,

As I stated in the last para of previous post, lady

thaaraa loses her husband by the hit of raama's arrow and vaali's

soul is about leave the body. Sage vaalmeeki places 2 sargams only on

thaaraa's lament. She also wanted to commit 'sathi' – 'udan kattai

Erudhal' in tamil. But hanumaan consoled her. Then sugreeva also

joined thaaraa in going to death along with vaali for having killed

his brother.

At that stage sree raama wanted first to console

thaaraa and then sugreeva. When raama started approaching thaaraa to

her proximity to console her, vaalmeeki places in his 'kaavyam' lot

of 'superfine attributes' to raama. That is also worth inclusion here

in and hence first that portion.

ithi Evam aarthasya raghu praveerah Sruthvaa vachO

vaali jaghanya jasya |

sanjaatha baashpa para veera hanthaa raamO

muhoortham vimanaa babhoova || 4-24-24

meaning: On hearing the anguished words of

the younger brother of Vaali, viz. Sugreeva, the eyes of Raama, the

best valiant one from Raghu's dynasty and the eliminator of valiant

enemies, are moistened and he became perturbed for a moment.

[4-24-24]

point: 2 attributes are available here –

raghu praveera – best valiant one in raghu dynasty,

para veera hanthah - the eliminator of valiant enemies

meaning: At that moment, Raama whose

perseverance is like that of the earth and who is the protector of

earth has seen Thaaraa, who is wailing and repeatedly looking around

as she is deluged in desperation, and then with all his concernedness

Raama paced towards her. [4-24-25]

point: again 2 more attributes --

kshithi kshamaavaan – one having persevearance is like that

of the earth

bhuvanasya gOpthaa - the protector of earth

meaning: She, [thaaraa] who is hugging her

husband wriggled highly, when she is disengaged from him, at a

particular stage saw Raama with his bow and arrow in his hands and

who is resplendent like sun, by his own resplendence. [4-24-27]

point: again 2 more

attributes -

Sara chaapa paaNih - one with bow

and arrow in his hands

sva thEjasaa sooryam iva jvalantham

- who is resplendent like sun, but by his own resplendence.

su samvriththam paarthiva lakshaNaih cha tham chaaru nEthram

mrigaSaava nEthraa |adhrishTa poorvam purusha pradhaanam ayam sa

kaakuthstha ithi prajajnE || 4-24-28

meaning: [thaaraa

on seeing raama] On seeing at him whose eyes are graceful, one

endowed with all kingly attributes, who looked best among men, and

who is unseen so far, that fawn-eyed Thaaraa realized he alone is

that Raama. [4-24-28]

point: 3 more

attributes now -

1. samvriththam paarthiva

lakshaNaih - one endowed with all kingly attributes

2. chaaru nEthrah - whose eyes are

graceful

3. purusha pradhaanah - best among men

thasya indhra kalpasya dhuraasadhasya mahaanubhaavasya sameepam

aaryaa |aartha athi thoorNam vyasanam prapannaa jagaama thaaraa

parivihvalanthee || 4-24-29

meaning: She, on whom misfortune has chanced,

and who is anguished, that noble lady, Thaaraa went very quickly with

highly squirming movements to the near of the highly exalted soul

Raama, who matches Indhra in his valour and an unreachable one for

his enemies. [4-24-29]

points: a. 3

more attributes now -

indhra kalpah - who matches Indhra in his valour

dhuraasadhah - an unreachable one for his enemies

mahaanubhaavah - the highly exalted soul Raama

b. please note another important “protocol”

is also mentioned by vaalmeeki -- See in slokam 24 raama started

towards thaara to console her. Here in this slokam thaara also paced

towards raama. Which means – the protocol is - when you want to

meet a great person, and he is coming towards you, you must, at least

make an attempt, to make a step towards him as a mark of receiving

him or respecting in receiving him. And that is what is protocol.

'Such subtle points' are detailed by vaalmeeki in great detail in his

kaavyam.

Note: You can also MGV's article on

'protocol' in archives [observed by raama as projected by vaalmeeki

in raamayaNam]

tham saa samaasaadhya viSudhdhha saththvam SOkEna sambhraantha

Sareera bhaavaa |manasvinee vaakyam uvaacha thaaraa raamam raNa

uthkarshaNa labdha lakshyam || 4-24-30

meaning: The body language of thaaraa is now

disoriented to anger on seeing the very same Raama, as she is a

self-respectful lady [which is so far disconcerted by the grief felt

for Raama's perfect hitting, felling and achieving his object in war,

viz. Vaali,].

On arriving at the near of that very pure being

Raama, that ireful body language of hers again reoriented itself to a

sort of serenity, and then she spoke this to him. [4-24-30]

point: again see

more attributes by vaalmeeki --

1. viSudhdhha saththva

raama - very pure being Raama

2. raNa uthkarshaNa labdha lakshyam

raama - raama who is perfect hitter, felling and achieving his

object in war.

Actually next three

slokams are really thaaraa's words of praise of raama – which

reflect what a learned and realised soul she is – those three

slokams we will see in next post as length of post applies a brake

here.
