Guest guest
Dear sri vaishNava perunthagaiyeer, Many a times we struggle with the point, why the supreme lord has to come down to earth as an avathaaram or in an avathaaram – can he not do whatever he has to do from here, from his abode at sree vaikuntam, from there itself, since he is all powerful, omnipresent, omniscient etc. When the bhagavadh geethaa slokam of parithraaNaaya saadhoonaam vinaaSaaya cha dhushkruthaam dharma samsthaapanaarthaaya sambavaami yugE yugE – 4th chapter - 8th slokam was spoken to arjuna, then only the purpose of his avathaarams became very clear. Somebody, in this learned sangamam, lists, can suggest me - as to - this very 'purpose' of his avathaarams – has it been made clear in any of his earlier avathaarams than that of his 'krishNa' avathaaram in such clear terms as above – or elsewhere than bhagavath geethaa. but has raama made it clear like the above statement? May be in his avathaaram as raama, he lived as a 'role model' in doing it - as per the present day management jargon. or did the supreme lord say that in his earlier avathaarams? This 'very purpose of the avathaaram' is simply placed in a krithi by sri thaallapaakka annamachaarya – see below -- in raagam 'padi' – a rarely sung raagam in the music platforms. Pallavi: sishTa rakshaNamunu dhushTa nigrahamunu | srishTinchEnu okka vELanE sree jayanthinaaDu || meaning: Protecting the right and containing the bad, He made it happen on this day of Sri Jayanti in a single stroke. [srishTinchu means actually creating – or otherwise make it happen sree jayantinaaDu – one who is born on the sree jayanthi day] charaNam 1-- hari krishNa avathaaramandina antalOnE | parama munulakella bhayam uDigenu | therachi dhaithyulagunDe dhigulucocce naththari | sirulaminchinayaTTi sree jayanthinaaDu || meaning: As Lord Sree Hari descends as KrishNa on this day of Sri Jayanti that excels in all riches, the fears of all great sages are gone, the hearts of the demons were cut open to receive the fear deep inside. CharaNam 2 gOvindhuDu vasudhEvu koDukaina appuDE | gOvulu rankelu sEsi gollapallenu | nOvithODa kamsuniki nooru ninDe jooDagaane | cEluvameerinayaTTi sree jayanthinaaDu || meaning: As gOvinda becomes the son of vasudhEva on this day of sree Jayanthi that excels in grandeur, all cows happily yelled in the village of cowherds (golla palli). As Lord becomes son of vasudhEva, kamsa becomes sick, and all his 100 years (meaning his life span) is complete! CharaNam 3 naaraayaNuDu bhuvi naruDu dhaa gaagaanE | mEra baanDavu lechchiri mEnavaavini | kouravula pani dheerE kammi sreevEnkaTEsuDu | chEruvanE merayaga sree jayanthinaaDu || meaning: As Lord naaraayaNa becomes a human-being on this earth, paaNdavaas emerge stronger due to their relation with Him, and kouarvaas' chapter is over. Such a Lord, SrI vEnkatESa, who became a human-being on this earth, is now further closer [to me] as on this day of SrI jayantI, shining brightly (merayaga). Points: 1. The birthday of my supreme lord, my Krishna, is occurring in aavaNi maasam – the Simha maasam, the lion month, [sraavaNa month] in the dark paksham – krishNa paksham - in Ashtami thithi and on that day the star constellation is RohiNi. About this Sree sukha says in sreemadh bhaagavatham -10th canto - dhasama skandham - chapter 3 – sargam 3 - slokams 1 to 5 – verses 1- 5 --- sri suka uvacha atha sarva gunOpEthah kaalah parama Sobhanah | yarhy Eva ajana janma rksham Saantha rksha graha thaarakam || 1 dhiSah prasEdhur gaganam nirmalodu-gaNOdhayam | mahee mangala bhooyisTha pura graama vrajaakaraa || 2 nadhyah prasanna-salilaa hradhaa jalaruha Sriyah | dhvijaali kula sannaadha sthabakaa vana raajayah || 3 vavou vaayuh sukha sparSah puNya gandhavahah Suchih | agnayas cha dhvijaatheenaam Saanthas thathra samindhhatha || 4 manaamsy aasan prasannaani saadhoonaam asura dhruhaam | jaayamaanE~ajanE thasmin nEdhur dhundhubhayah dhivi || 5 meaning: Thereafter, at the auspicious time for the appearance of the Lord, the entire universe was surcharged with all the qualities of goodness, beauty and peace. The constellation RohiNi appeared, as did stars like Asvini. The sun, the moon and the other stars and planets were very peaceful. All directions appeared extremely pleasing, and the beautiful stars twinkled in the cloudless sky. Decorated with towns, villages, mines and pasturing grounds, the earth seemed all-auspicious. The rivers flowed with clear water, and the lakes and vast reservoirs, full of lilies and lotuses, were extraordinarily beautiful. In the trees and green plants, full of flowers and leaves, pleasing to the eyes, birds like cuckoos and swarms of bees began chanting with sweet voices for the sake of the demigods. A pure breeze began to blow, pleasing the sense of touch and bearing the aroma of flowers, and when the braahmaNaas engaging in ritualistic ceremonies ignited their fires according to Vedic principles, the fires burned steadily, undisturbed by the breeze. Thus when the birthless Lord VishNu, was about to appear, the saints and braahmaNaas, who had always been disturbed by demons like Kamsa and his men, felt peace within the core of their hearts, and kettledrums simultaneously vibrated from the upper planetary system. Point: What sukha brahmam said as above is only getting reflected amply in annamacharya krithi. More points we will see in next post.
