Dear Bhagavathas

 

It is with great pleasure I want to share with you this information. The

Ashtabandana Mahasamprokshanam of Sri Damodara Perumal temple at Damal was

performed with great religious fervour witnessed by a large gathering of devotees

on the 3rd of September, 2009 at the appointed time between 0730AM and

0900AM. It was a great moment for one and all. Earlier the yagasala Homas

started as per Vaikhanasa Agama, on the 1st of Sept. at 5PM. The Mahashanthi

tirumanjanam was performed on the 2nd evening to the Utsavar with Ubhaya

Nachimars followed by ‘Sayanadhi Vasam’ of the Lord.That is, the Perumal and the

Ubhaya Nachimars were made to recline in their Divine Yoganidra upon the

designated Kumbhas in the Yagasala. On the 3rd of Sept.09, after Viswarupa and

homas, Mahapurnahuthi was performed around 0745AM and then the procession of

all the Kumbhas commenced and they were taken to their respective places. Then

the Mahasamprokshanam was performed on all the Vimanas and the Archas, followed by consecration and thiruvaradhana. Later a

grand Sattumurai was performed, a like of which can be witnessed only in

divya desas like Kanchi Varadar Or Tiruvallikkeni Sri Parthasarthy

temples. The Goshti was large, sonorous and scintillating. The crowning

glory of this Mahasamprokshanam was the participation of young bright Vedha, Divya

Prabhanda Pathasala Vidyarthis (about 12 in nos- 5 for Yajur veda, 3 for

Samaveda and 4 for Divya prabhanda ) belonging to Sri Ahobhila Math Veda,

Divyaprabhanda Pathasala, at Selayur, Tambaram, Chennai, in all the three days

sessions and chanted the Vedas and Divyaprabhandas with dedication and also

made the Sattumurai very memorable indeed. They also took part in the Goshti

during the Thiruveedhi purappadu ( procession of the deities). This

demonstrated that the efforts put in by our Acaryas to propagate the Vedas and Divya prabhandas did not go waste and very

much gratifying. They did really a very professional job. We will be failing in

our duty if we don't acknowledge and bring this fact to the notice of

this forum. The entire proceedings were described ably with commentary by

Sri Ubha.Ve. Damal Ramkrishnan, one of the front ranking upanyasakas

today, in his own inimitable style, embellishing by delectable quotes

from the Azhvar and the Acarya Sri

Sukthis. Sri Ubha.Ve. Perukkaranai Chakravarthyacharya Swamy, Sri Ubha.Ve.

Paiyammbadi Srivatsankacharyar Swamy were the Vidwans who graced the occasion and rendered

upanyasams describing the Divine expoits of Sri Damodara as enjoyed by the

Alwars and the Acarya Sarvabhouma Swamy Sri Desikan. Four tracts were released

by Sri Paiyyambadi Swamy. Three of them were authored by Sri U.Ve.Krishnaswamy

Iyengar, an alumnous of Dept.of Vaishnavism,

University of Madras. They are “Sri Damodara Panchakam†( Samskrit-English), “

Kaliyugatthil mukti alikkum ettu upayangal†as described in Sriman Narayaneeyam (Tamil) and “Panniru Nama

Mahimai†(Tiruvaimozhi 2-7) based on the commentary by Srimad Thirukkudanthai

Andavan . The fourh one was authored by Sri U.Ve. Dr. Ananthan, Prof. in English (retd)

,Vivekananda College , titled “Sri Damodara Ashtothra satha Namavali†with

tamil meanings.

We wish to express our deep sense of gratitude to those of

the donar Bhagavathas who supported us by their contributions both in cash or kind

to achieve this kainkaryam possible. The Maha prasadams will be dispatched shortly

to all the donor devotees.

It is our earnest appeal to all the devotees to visit this

temple and obtain the benign Grace of Sri Tirumalazhagi sametha Sri Damodara

Perumal.

The village Damal is located 12kms west of Kanchipuram on

the Chennai-Bengaluru Highway.
