On this series of debate, next we shall discuss about yet another proclamation by Saiva on the Topic “Yama Samharaâ€. Saiva’s Statement: Mrikandu Munivar worshipped Shiva and sought from him the boon of begetting a son. He was given the choice between a gifted son with a short lived tenure on earth or a dunce with a long life. Mrikandu Munivar chose the former, and was blessed with Markandeya, an exemplary son, destined to die at the age of 16. Markandeya grew up to be a great devotee of Shiva. On the day of his destined death Markandeya continued to worship a Shivalingam. The messengers of Yama, the God of death were unable to take away the lad's life, given his devotion to Shiva and his being engaged in the act of worship then. Yama himself came in person to take his life away and sprung his noose around the young sage's neck. The noose landed around the Shivalingam, and out of it, Shiva emerged in all his fury, and kicked Yama and killed Death itself. He then revived him, under the condition that the devout youth would live for ever. Saiva’s Claimed that as Shiva killed the death King Yama, he is the Supreme Lord. Swami Koorathaazwan discarded: The Katha Upanishad (1.2.25) says: yasya brahma ca kshatram caubhe bhavatah odanahmrityur yasyopasecanamka ittha veda yatra sah Lord Sriman Narayana for whom the entire universe consisting of all forms of Movable (Brahma) and immovable (Kshatra) are food (odanam) and (God of) Death is pickle (upasechanam) to enjoy dinner… says Kathopanishad. We use pickle as the side dish and finish our main course and then eat the pickle to finish the dinner. The same way, Lord Sriman Narayana uses the Samhara Devatha Shiva to destroy the whole world during Pralaya and finally swallow him too. Mahopanishad proclaims :Ekohaavai Narayana Aaseeth. Na Brahmaneshano.....Na nakshathrani, na suryo, na chandrama. Once (During Pralaya), there existed only Sriman Narayana. Neither Brahma nor Shiva existed. There was no Stars or Moon……. Goes the verse. This clearly says that during MahaPralaya only Sriman Narayana Exists. So if its true that Shiva killed Yama and become supreme, Sriman Narayana destroys the whole universe including Shiva and Brahma which clearly implicates that HE is THE SUPREME LORD. Swami further explained the reason for Markandeya’s Chiranjeevi status: The Pramana goes by these verse: Aaradhyo Bagavan Vishnu Ekaeva MayachyuthaKesavaa dharyathe jagath sthavara jangamamMukthi bukthi pradhadheva svathaeva purushothama.. Vishnu is the only diety, worshiped by me. All the sentient and Non-sentient beings in this world are sustained by Kesava. Purushothama is the only Diety who grants us all the wishes on this world and grants us the Eternal World Srivaikuntam. It is also stated that, Shiva brought Markandeya to Hrishikesa who fulfils all the desireOf HIS devotees, and made markandeya to prostrate before Lord Vishnu and obtained Chiranjeevi Status and Vishnu Bhakthi. Thus Swami refuted Shiva Parathva and Reinstated Vishnu Parathva in the Chola Kin’s Court.
