-- Dear Srirangangasri members and friends, My Saashtaanga Namaskaram to Periya perumal and Sri Periya Paratiyaar I pray to our Sriranga Divya  Dhambathigal  to bless all of us with Prosperity, Happiness, and purify us from all the evil thoughts.

Day 9 night continuation after second EkAntham:

After Akantham, Lord Ranganatha  along with Sri Ranganayaki bless the devotees together (serthi) on the same pedestal. This is an auspicious event and it is a rare blessing for anyone who is able to see this wonderful scene in person. As we saw earlier, bhagavadh Ramanuja chose this auspicious moment to compose his divine Gathyathrayam (Sriranga Gathyam,Vaikunta Gadhyam and Charanagathi Gathyam). These gathyams are in fact only to guide us who are caught in samsaric (materialistic) troubles and are in deep waters. There is no other sign of escape for us; except for such excellent compositions. These compositions of yathiraja  was immediately appreciated by The Dhivya Thampathis Themselves and Their assurances to protect and save him (and his devotees as well) at all times. At the same time, Ramanuja was taken to His Lotus feet to perform ceaseless kainkaryam (service to the Lord). The Gathyathrayam Goshti (group of adiyars) sings the gathyams in front of the Dhivya Thampathis like Ramanuja did in his day. After the Gathyathraya Goshti, the Dhivya Thampathis have Thirumanjanam together at night from about midnight to early next morning.

UTHSAVAM DAY 10 Goratham & SapthAvaraNam (30th March)!!Day 9 leads directly to the 10th day at the end of the Dhivya Thampathi Thirumanjanam.  After the Thirumanjanam is the third of the three Akanthams between the Lord Ranganatha and the Goddess Ranganayaki.  The third Akantham is when the Dhiyva Thampathi is offered the most delicious " Akkara(v)adisil " (sweet thirukkannamathu made of jaggery, milk, moong dal, rice & ghee). It is believed that the Dhivya Thampathi discuss seriously about sarva lokha samrakshanam (universal protection). After Akantham is piriya vidai.  This is a very significant and heart-wrenching event of this day.

In the morning, the Lord prepares to say His good byes to Sri Ranganayaki.  At this juncture, there is a lot of emotion amongst the Lord and the Goddess and also amongst Their bhakthas.  Since the Lord now has to return to protect His people, He has to leave Goddess Ranganayaki, who is a padithanda  paththini (one who does not leave the confines of Her home).  The Lord is immensely saddened that He now has to leave behind His beloved Ranganayaki to do His duties as the protector of the universe (Jagadhrakshakan).  With a lot of effort and uncontrollable grief, Lord Namperumal  comes closer once more before and then turns away from Goddess Ranganayaki, unable to face Her at leaving for another entire year.  He will not be back with Her until the next Panguni Uthiram.  Sri Ranganayaki feels a heavy heart at seeing Her beloved Lord leave Her behind to address His missions.  The grief expands amongst the archakas and the thousands of bhakthas who witness this unpleasant event.

After this gut-wrenching difficult split, the Lord directly gets on His Goratham (horse chariot) and goes around the Chithra streets to fulfill His duties.  In the meantime, Goddess Ranganayaki returns back to Her sanctum to take care of Her children, Her bhakthas and help them reach the Lord.  In the pranava mathram of AUM, there are three syllables, “Aâ€, “U†and “Maâ€. In Vishishtadvaitha, “A†stands for Paramathma, “Ma†stands for “Jeevathma†and “U†stands for “Goddess Lakshmi†who is the link between Paramathma  and Jeevathma.  She creates the link between us and the Lord.

We thought it was very important to have a small discussion on women and their roles at this juncture. Lord Ranganayaki represents all women all over the world, be it in India, the USA or anywhere in this universe.  All around women toil and work harder than any other man in this world supporting the entire family, taking care of the children, bringing them up in the absence of the father who is always away from home trying to support the family by working.  An average woman goes around purchasing vegetables, food and other household items to prepare food for the entire family, take the children to schools and bring them back, teach the children their subjects and also provide comfort to her husband when they return from work tired.  Not once would you hear a single comment on tiredness.  Women all over deserve more credit than they are getting these days.  In those days, our poorvacharyas (forefather and teachers) and Azhwars understood the immense responsibilities on the women of this world and treated them with a lot of respect. This is evident in a lot of their great literary works like the “Gothasthuthi†by Swami Vedhantha Desikar.  It is very important for us to follow the leads of our Acharyas in respecting women as it is them who make homes out of houses when the men are away working to support their families.

On this tenth day, a day before the grand finale of the uthsavam, Lord Namperumal gets on His majestic Goratham (horse chariot) at 6:30 AM with thousands of bhakthas thronging to get a handle on the rope (vadam pidippathu) to pull Him around the chithra streets.  After going around the 7th prakaram, the Lord returns to Santhanu Mandapam.  Then there is Thirumanjanam for Namperumal.  In the evening, at 8:00 PM, Lord Azhagiya Manavalan starts on His procession again around the chithra  streets followed by Sapthavaranam (seven walls of the temple).  During sapthavaranam, the Lord goes through all the 7 prakarams before returning to His sanctum.  On a Sapthavaranam day, Lord Ranganatha  asks Ramanuja  not to accompany Him on His procession around the streets and commanded that all mangaLa vadhyams that normally accompany a procession to be stopped. Instead He asks all Sri Vaishnavas to recite Ramanuja Nuttrandhathi so He can listen to the wonderful creation of RAmanuja as recited by Ramanuja’s disciples on His way around the 7 prakaras.  The Lord returns to His sanctum for the night with one more day to go in the Adhi Brahmothsavam.

Rangaesha  Mamphaee  Rangeshamam  Pahee  Rangeshamaam pahee  Ranga Prabho  Sri Rangesha Mam pahee Rangesha Mam pahee Rangesha Mam Pahee Ranga Prapho " '.We like to  express to our devotion by receiting RANGA RANGA RANGAA in our Chitra strees.
