Guest guest
SrI: Dear All : May the Vikruti New Year bless You all with Happiness , Health and Peace of Mind ! It is always good to know the origin and meaning of words such as the names of New Years . Most of them are Sanskrit words .The etymology ( origin of the words ) might make you sleepy but it will provide You answers , if some body asks you why this year is called Vikruti . The name Vikruti goes with Prakruti . Both are names of Mahaa Lakshmi . These are the first two NaamAs of Sri Lakshmi AshtOttaram : Om Prakrutyai Nama: , Om Vikrutyai Nama: Let us start with the word Prakruti , which is closely tied with the word "Vikruti " , the name for this brand new year . Prakruti in sanskrit means Primary or original substance . Pra is a Prepositional prefix meaning towards or progressive; "Kruti" is a noun arising from the verbal root "Kri" meaning to make or to do .Together, Pra+Kruti form the word Prakruti meaning primordial Matter or the basic matter of which the universe is made of . Therefore it is also called Moola Prakruti or the fundamental source. The three tattvams ( doctrines) in VisishtAdhvaita ( VaishNava) philosophy are Prakruti ( Primordial Matter) , Jeevan (Sentient being or chEtanam ) and Iswaran ( Sriman Narayanan). The Lord of both Prakruti and Jeevan is Sriman NarayaNan . Vikruti is made up of "Vi" + "Kruti" . "Vi" means change ;"Kri" , the verbal root meaning to act or make or do . Vikruti is the manifested universe from the primordial matter ( Prakruti) . Vikruti signifies change or an alteration (vikAram) of some kind or the production or evolution from Prakruti , the primordial matter , which precedes it. The manifested universe in all its various aspects is the result of Vikruti . Vikruti can be viewed hence as the offspring of Prakruti. Please enjoy the multi-faceted splendor of the world (Vikruti) originating/manifesting from the Moola Prakrurti (Prakruti) as a result of the command and will ( sanklapam) of Sriman NarayaNan !
