Although azhvar saw everything in the divine body of the supreme lord, due to the overflowing enthusiasm azhvar says, "Oh! I saw this that" to mention a few, in this very first paasuram. The extreme joy that azhvar faced makes him to share the same with everyone in this divine paasuram. Commentary: (en Azhi vaNNan pAl kaNdEn) He is bhaktha parathantran (one who appears to be under the control of the bhakthas), so like any other object in my possession he is under my control. Like the sea, His form is so pleasing that the very sight removes the tiredness of the observers. He is cordial like the waves, and a storehouse of all wonderful gems. I saw all the wonderful gems in him. To see the gems in the ocean, don't we need some trained professional to get them out and show it to us? (endru) Yes I have. The first two azhvars brought Him to light in their first two thiruvandhAdhis. (endru) "neeyum thirumagaLum nindRAyAl" (mudal thiruvandhAdhi-86) As per poigai azhvar's words, the Lord with his consort, wished to join the mudal azhvars squeezed in (in the rishi's corridor), due to His unconditional grace, He showed himself today, so I am able to see Him. What are the gems and waves he saw? pEyazhvar elaborates in the rest of the paasuram. (thirukkaNdEn) First I saw the divine consort. Piratti is the svaroopa niroopaka dharma (that characteristic which is unique to an object, that proves the object-that very property that makes a pot a pot) of the supreme lord. She is the devata of all the wealth in this world. All the tattvatrayas (chit, achit and Ishvara) get goodness and greatness through her support. She is one of the most valuable and precious wealth of Him. I saw that piratti (divine goddess) first, who by all ways holds an upper position celebrated as the gem among ladies (striratnam). In all forms of the lord Para, vyuha, vibhava, antharyami and archai, piratti stays with him as purushakara bhoothai (one who talks in favour). So azhvar first takes the support of piratti before diving into the great task of talking about Him. This prabhandam has a unique greatness of starting and ending talking about piratti (thiru-meaning Sri:)(To Be continued) Azhvar emperumAnAr Jeeyer thiruvadigalE sharaNamAdiyen ramanuja dAsanVaradarajan
