Dear Bhagavadhas,

Today is the 1st day of 11 days of Chithirai thiruvadhirai utsavadhigal in Sri Emperumanar Sannidhi - Alwarthirunagari. This utsavam has many significances such as

 

1.) Followed for more than 800 years.2.) The most celebrated utsavam in this temple.

 

This utsavadhigal always starts 9 days before Chithirai thiruvadurai and Chithirai thiruvadhirai will be the 10th day of this utsavam. 11th day utsavadi is called Kanthaga Podi (sweet smelled powder) utsavam. During this 11th day, Sri Emperumanar idol will be adored with this powder and this is rare sight to see Sri Emperumanar with this alankaram. During the Thiruvedhi Porapadu and in the serthi, this powder will be distributed to any devotees asking specifically for this powder.

 

The main focus and motto of this utsavam is to celebrate Sri Emperumanar avatharam. We can surely say that this utsavadhigal are a great uppayam (Opportunity) for doing bhagawad / Acharya kainkeryam and there by obtaining an ecstatic bhagawad anubhavam. The pleasure of this bhagawad anubhavam has no comparison for any Sri Vaishnava Mumukshu (person with a desire for moksham), in the mean time for an average persons this Emperumanar anubhavam will bring big prosperity in their life. Hence, at least once in our life time, we should create an opportunity and visit this temple during this Chithirai utsavadhigal.

 

Through out this utsavadhigal, the temple devasthanam has made a grand arrangement for Thathiyaradanam (Free Meal Services) for Sri Vaishnava devotees. More over, there is custom of reciting all the 4000 pasurams of divya Tamil vedam during this 11 days of utsavadhigal. During this 4000 divya prabhantham recital, there are many circumstances in which ghosti members and assembled devotees celebrate the gesture of divya prabhantham nectar.

Simple translation:

To emperumAn, who is stationed in tirumAlirum SOlai (20 Kms from Madurai, now called as Azhagar Kovil) surrounded by fragrant gardens, I am offering (Not just thinking about offering but by the word of mouth), 100 vessels filled with butter and 100 vessels filled with akkAra aDiSil (sweet po'ngal). Will the Azhagar (whose wealth keeps increasing day by day) come today and accept these two offerings?

 

After this recital, there is a tradition of offering 100 dhonnai (a container made from banyan/plantain leaves) of sweet milk pongal topped with butter to Sri emperumAn and distribute this prasadam to all the people gathered in the temple. This is widely believed that the people who is receiving this prasadam has a great bhagayam to fulfill their desires. Sri Vaishnava Mumukshu should have this bhagawad / Acharya anubhavam once in their lifetime. This bhagawad anubhavam is beyond description and this karuNa murthy anubhavam will make us understand why Shri Amuthanar describe
