Shloka 18:

buvanagurUttama chaturaranga purApaNika: kaliripu dAsavarya kalitAmala sUktimaNIn |guNapaNasangraheNa nipuNAya dadAtihitAn ata punareva vR^ittimupayAnti vichitramidam ||

 

Meaning:

buvana gurUttama - Pillai Lokacharyarchatura rangapura ApaNika: - who is the shopkeeper in the talented shop which is SrirangamdadAti - givesnipuNAya - to the smart discipletAn - the popularkaliripu dAsavarya kalit amala sUktimaNIn - faultless jewels that are the sUktis of Kalikanri Dasa (Nampillai),guNapaNa sangraheNa - taking as cost the good qualities of his disciples.ata - ThenupayAnti - (these jewels) attainpunar eva vR^ittim - growth again.idam vichitramhi - Is this not amazing.

 

 

Swami Desikan is stating that Nampillai's divine suktisare faultless jewels. This is most appropriate. The storyof the acharya who used one of his srisuktis to removethe doubt on Ramayana in the mind of the king should be remembered here. His disciples have written a pasuramthat states that a few words of Nampillai will fetch awhole country.

 

As opposed to the jewels of this world that stay the same, Desikan points out that Nampillai's srisuktisgrow after they have been given by Pillai Lokacharyarto his disciples. This is the nature of knowledge. Itdoes not reduce or stay stagnant but keeps growing. Itis like a shopkeeper (Pillai Lokacharyar) who sells jewels but they keep growing in his shop - Desikan ispointing out this amazing situation in his shloka.
