flood.vinatasasya pa~Nkti - (Therefore) the field that is the devoteesparam vikAsam agamat - blossomed. In our sampradhayam we say that the Lord is the ocean andthat Nammazhvar is the cloud that drank from that ocean andrained his grace on this world. Swami Desikan is showing asimilar comparison in this shloka - here Nampillai whoblessed Vadakkuth Thiruveedhip Pillai (who is the father ofPillai Lokacharyar) is the cloud, that drank from the oceanthat are the Srisuktis of his acharya Nanjeeyar. Nanjeeyarwas a great acharya and a sanyasi and therefore he isrefered to as yati pravara - the best amongst yatis. The great meanings broughtforth by Nampillai became a flood of Vedantic knowledge in this world and all devotees who immersed in that had the lamp of knowledge lit in their hearts. The word jagatguru - Lokacharyar -

originally was given toNampillai ("thunnu pugazh kanthAdai thOzhappar tham ugappAl,enna ulagAriyanO enRuraikka"). It was later given to theelder son of Vadakkuth Thiruveedhip Pillai - who came tobe known as Pillai Lokacharyar. This shloka can also be shown to apply to him - that is, theword jagatguru refering to Pillai Lokacharyar. In that case,the yatipravara would refer to Swami Ramanuja himself. PillaiLokacharyar would be the cloud that drank from the Srisuktiocean of Ramanuja and poured the great meanings on this worldfor the upliftment of devotees. It has been shown by greatacharyas that the divine meanings of the rahasya granthasgiven by Pillai Lokacharyar are the same as told by SwamiRamanuja.
