Vyakhyana Saram: In the previous pasuram, Azhvar said that we have to reach Him and enjoy Him. When asked how to destroy the obstacles to that experience, he replies that He Himself who came as Sri Rama willdo that. -- Pasuram 60: saraNA maRai payandha thAmaraiyAnOdumaraNAya mannuyirgatku ellAm - araNAyapErAzhi koNda pirAn anRi maRRaRiyAdhuOrAzhi sUzhndha ulagu Meaning:thAmaraiyAnOdu - Along with Brahma who was born in the lotus in the navelpayandha - and was taughtmaRai - the VedassaraNA - which are the means to all four purushArtthas,araN Aya - that which protectsman uyirgatku ellAm - the eternal soulsmaraNAya - that have death (of their bodies) as part of their nature,aRiyAdhu - is not knownulagu - by the people of the worldOr Azhi sUzhndha - that is surrounded by the matchless ocean,pEr Azhi koNda pirAn anRi maRRu - other than the Lord with the great Chakra in His hand. Vyakhyana Saram: In the prior pasuram, Azhvar said that He is the means. If thefruit of liberation is for the soul, then would not the meanstoo be by the soul? Azhvar replies - if one looks at the stateof the soul, one sees that it knows neither the past nor thefuture and does not understand the present; if one looks atHis nature, He knows everything (the chetana's good and the bad) and He has complete power (to give the chetanas what theyneed). Therefore, it is clear that only He can be the means andnot the chetana.
