Thirumzhisai Azhvar received

the teachings of Peyalwar and the grace of Lord. As a result he got clear

knowledge. So he has been called “thuyya

madhi peRRaâ€. His birth day is celebrated and glorified by great men. This

signified the seven rishis who are lodged very close to Makam Star. Azhvar was

born to a Rishi. Threfore, “naRRavargaL

kondAdum nALâ€.

This Alwar is very proud

about his intellect. He declared ‘en mathikku vinnellam undo vilai’ meaning

that all the celestial worlds would not be sufficient to pay as equivalent for

his intellect.

thuyya madhi peRRa: What is the purity of the mind or what is the essence of knowledge? Azhvar

never considered other dieties (anya devatas) like Brahma, Siva, Subramanya

etc., for paratvam (supremacy). Note his saying, ‘seer miguththa ninnalalor thaivam nan madik-kilane’ I shall

not respect as Lord any other thaivam (god) other than you (Sriman Narayana).

‘ini arin-theyn easark-kum nan-mughark-kum tahivam…..’ . I understand only

Narayana as supreme Lord and this fact was emphatically asserted by this Azhvar.

piRandha nAL:

Thirumzhisai Azhvar declared that he considered himself as born only on the day

he realized the true relationship with Narayana. So, according to him, he had

two births. Once as Rishi putra and again on acquiring enlightened knowledge by

the grace of Lord and by the grace of his mentor Peyalwar..
