us through Thiru-voi-mozi by Nammazhvar. He is the Lord of the place called

Thiru-nagari. He has born in the month of Vaikasi and in the Star Visakam. His

birth is explained in this manner. Up to the previous paasuram

the months were in regular order. There was no birth of Alwars in the month of

Panguni and in the month of Chit-thirai. Madurakavi Alwar and Emperumanar were

born in the month of Chit-thirai and this has been separately mentioned. ErAr vaikAsi visAgaththin: Vaikasi Visakam. The specialty is due to observance

of Thiru Visaka Thirunal and on this day, in all Divya Desas Palmangai amudhu

is offered to the Lord. pArOr aRiyap pagarginREn: The glories

of Nammazhvar’s birth is explained. Those who are indulged in worldly matters

should know about this Azhvar and thereby get themselves emancipated. I am

saying this even without anyone asking for the same, as I am unable to keep

those who are eligible to learn it is so difficult that only a few can read and

master. However, the Tamil Prabandham, Thiruvoimozi is open to one and all

without any discrimination of caste and creed and in the same time gives the

meanings of Vedas in a simple and understandable way. That is why Nammazhvar is

said to have given the rare Vedas in thamizh language. meyyan: Everything

said by Nammazhvar in his Prabandhams are truth contained in the Vadas. ezhil kurugai nAdhan: Beautiful place known as Kurugapuri and Nammazhvar is the Lord to

that place. Though, Adipiran is the presiding deity of the place Kurugai, the

Lord has made his beloved devotee Nammazhvar as the head of the place. By the

birth of Azhvar the place acquired greatness or became famous and therefore ‘Ezhil’ avathariththa nAL: Nammazhvar is proficient in converting all in this world to practice devotion towards Lord. In short, Azhvar is

engaged in uplifting the ignorant. Due to this special quality his birth day is
