Shloka 5:

svAmin! gabhIrasubhagam sramahAri pumsAm mAdhuryaramyamanagham maNipa~NgdR^ishyam |vegAntare vitanute pratibimbashobhAm lakshmIsara: sarasijAsrayama~Ngakam te ||

Meaning:

svAmin - O Deepa Prakasha!te a~Ngam - Your divine body, gabhIra subhagam - which is majestic and beautiful, srama hAri - which removes the difficulties pumsAm - of men, mAdhuryam ramyam - which is sweet, anagham - which is faultless, maNi pa~Nga dR^ishyam - which shines like a jewel, sarasija Asrayam - which is the home for lotuses (and Sri Devi who is on them); lakshmI sara: - and the pool called Lakshmi Saras;pratibimba shobhAm vitanute - both are reflected vegAntare - in the Vegavati river.

Vyakhyana Saram:

Here Swami Desikan is comparing the Lord to a cool pool of water - in this case the Lakshmi Saras which is the pushkarini in Thiruththanka divyadesam. This is the comparison that Azhvars have done as well ("dayarathan peRRa mardhaga maNith thadaththinaiyE"). The many qualities of the pool are displayed by the Lord. However, pUrvacharyas have also shown that Lakshmi Saras isno other than Periya Pirattiyar SriDevi Herself. She tooshows all the qualities of the "thadam". In Thirunedunthandagam,Thirumangai Azhvar states "vil iRuththu melliyal thOL thOyndhAy". That is, Sri Rama broke the bow and then immersed in the soft shoulders of Sita Piratti. The question is, how can someone immerse in a shoulder - one can only immerse in a body of water. The explanation is that, upon hearing Sri Rama's reply to Janaka about His marriage to Janaki, She melted completely; and in that Sri Rama immersed.

So, it is appropriatethat She too is a pool.

The qualities of the pool are that: It is majestic and beautiful; She too is the same, as is the Lord.

It removes the pain of people who immerse in it; She too removes the sins of those who seek Her and recommends them to the Lord that He do the same - which He follows <li>it is sweet; She and the Lord are of course the divine nectar ("thEnE pAlE kannalE amudhE").

It is faultless; She is faultless in that She accepts everyone without distinction - is She not the mother to all of us? He is blemishless in that He does not have any faults and He removes the sins of all those who seek Him ("amalan Adhi pirAn").

It's waves shines with the jewels inside it; She too shines with Her beauty and jewels ("divyAlankAra bhUshitha"); He is the one who adds beauty to the jewels on Him ("AbaraNangaLukku azhagu sErkkum perumAL"); when Hanuman saw Him in the forest without anything to cover His divine shoulders, he wondered why He had to show such great beauty without covering it with jewels.

It is the home for lotuses; She is "padmapriye padmini padmahaste", "alar mEl mangai"; He has Her in His chest on the lotus; has Brahma in a lotus in His navel; He is puNdarIkAksha; His whole body is compared to lotus ("vAy kamalam pOlum, kaNNiNaiyum aravindham adiyum aqdhE").

Together, this mithunam is reflected in the Vegavati river inThiruththanka.
