Shloka 11:

bhogyam mukunda! guNabhedamachetaneShu bhogtR^itvamAtmanisu niveshya nijecchayaiva |pA~nchAlikAshukavibhUShaNabhogadAyI samrADivAtmasamayA saha modesa svam ||

 

Meaning:

mukunda - O Mukunda!nija icchaya eva - By Your desire alone, niveshya - You madeachetaneShu - in the achetanas guNa bhedam - the different qualities bhogyam - which are to be experienced, Atmani - and in the chetanas bhogtR^itvam - the ability to experience them.tvam modesa - (By that) You gain happiness, Atma samayA saha - with Your consort who is like You, samrAT iva - like a King dAyI - who gives vibhUShaNa - jewelry bhoga - and pleasures pA~nchAlikA - to a wooden play doll shuka - and a parrot.

 

Vyakhyana Saram:When a chetana attains the state of performing sharaNAgati,there is one realization that has to occur. The chetananormally experiences achetana things such as the moon,breeze, sandal, fragrance, etc. The achetana thing thusexists for the sake of the chetana and to be experiencedby him only. Similary, the chetana who has performedsharaNAgati, has to exist for the paramAtma and to beexperienced by Him alone. "thanakkEyAga enaik koLLumIdhE"said Azhvar. "seyththalai ezhunARRup pOl avan seyvana seydhu koLLa" said Periyazhvar. It is at this state that the chetana shows his true nature and shines. Swami Desikan uses an example to show this. A king and his consorts would take a wooden doll and play with it. They will pretend to dress up the doll with clothes and jewelry. It may look like a parrot and they will pretendto feed it. That is their pleasure. Similarly, the Lord

has created the chetana and achetanas and plays with them. Even though the Lord has given the quality of experiencing the achetanas to the chetana out of His own desire, the chetana should realize that he should belike an achetana - that is, the state of experiencing (bhogtR^itvam) is for the Lord only and that his nature is to be experienced only (bhogyadai). He is there only for the experience of the divine couple. It is this pAratantrya state that is the true nature of the chetana.
