Of the three, the foremost

Ragasiyam is Thirumandiram.

Q. 1. Which

Ragasiyam a Mumukshu should know first?

A. Mumukshu should know the Thirumandiram first.

Q. 2.

What is the truth that Thirumandiram envisages?

A. Thirumandiram envisages the real constitution

of Anma and the things that are to be avoided by sethanan (Chetana).

Q. 3. Why

Thirumandiram is required to be studied first?

A. Those who fully understand Thirumandiram only

will get interested in the power and means of the other two Ragasiyams viz.

Duvayam and Sarama Slokam. Since Duvayam

is derived on explicit understanding of Thirumandiram and assimilated and

understood only by means of Duvayam.

Without Thirumandiram, Duvayam and Saramaslokam cannot be

understood. Therefore, Thirumandiram

should be studied first.

Q. 4.

Further elaborate why Thirumandiram is considered to be the foremost.

A. Thirumandiram contains three words, Om Namo

Narayanaya. Out of this the meaning of

the word ‘Om’ is further broadly explained by

the other two words, “Namo Narayanaya’.

The meaning of these two words (Namo Narayanaya) is explained in

Duvayam. The meaning of Duvayam as a

whole is explained in the Sarama Slokam.

These Ragasiyams (Thirumandiram, Duvayam and Sarama Slokam) are inter

linked in meaning and explanation and Duvayam and Sarama Slokam are derived

from Thirumandiram. Therefore,

Thirumandiram is considered as the foremost of the Ragasiya Granthanggal.

Q.5. Why

it is called Mandiram?

A.

Thirumandiram gives solace to those who chant it and hence called Mandiram.

Q.6. How

Thirumandiram protects the Upasagar (one who possess Baghavath consciousness

and performs kainkaryams to Bhagavan)?

A. Some

perform Homam and chant the Thirumandiram to purify themselves from the evils

that stop them from practicing Iswara bhagthi.

These persons are called Upasakars.

Thirumandiram protects these Upasakars from evils with the help of the

vibrations of the sacred sound force derived from the mantram.

Q.7. What

is Japam?

A. Japam is chanting of manthras silently, to be

heard by chanter alone and not those around.

One should concentrate and focus the mind on Bhagavan while chanting the

mantra.

Q.8. What

is Homam?

A. Chanting the mantra and thinking of

Paramathma (Bhagavan) and offering any one of milk, ghee and puffed rice to

Agni (Sacred fire) is called Homam.

Q.9. Who

are all called Upasakars?

A. An Upasakar is one who follows the Tahara

Vithai (Vithai denotes upayam or means) derived from Upanishads leading to

Moksha.

Q.10.

What is Thagara Vithai?

A. This

is a kind of Brahma Vithai. The method by which keeping Bhagavan always at

heart while chanting mantras is called Thagara Vithai.

Q. 11.

Who is called Paramapurusha?

A. The Paramapurushas are those who get the

experience of the power to do kainkaryam to Bhagavan by attaining eternal bliss

and the consciousness of being eternally with Paramathma and possessing the

bhakthi of enjoying HIM and HIM alone directly and not through other means like

Japam, Homam, Gnyana Yogam and Bhakthi Yogam. The Prabannar who gets this

exclusive experience of Bhagavan, the highest Realm, will become a great Saint.

Q.12. How

Thirumandiram protects Upasakar and Prapannar?

A.

Thirumandiram protects the Upasakars by means of the Power of its saptha

(sound) while Prapannars are protected by way of feeding the Artha Gnyanam

(meaning and source of knowledge of Bhagavan).

Moreover, Thirumandiram helps Prapannars with Athirshta Vidya.

Q. 13.

What is Athirshta Vidya upakaram?

A. While

doing Japam and Homam chanting Thirumandiram, it gives flawless route of

practicing pure Bhakthi towards Bhagavan and removes all evil hurdles on the

way to consciousness of being eternally with Brahman and thus purifies the

Upasakar. This is called Athirshta Vidya

Upakaram.
