Guest guest
Srimathe Ramanujayanama: Jai Srimannarayana! We present below a short write-up on the Divine retrieval of the Divyapraprabandam by Sri Nadamuni, our first Acharya after Lord Lakshminarayanan. Even though many of us know the history, it is our humble opinion that we hear about these achievements of our Acharyas again and again to remind us of the sacrifice made by The Azhwars and Acharyas to save us from the evils in this world. THE GLORY OF POORVACHARS THE DIVINE RETRIEVAL OF DIVYAPRABANDMS In the course of time after the Avathar of Azhwars came to an end, the Divyaprabandams of the great Azhwars gradually went out of course and forgotten. In order to alleviate the sufferings of the Chetanas and prepare them to know the nature of Anma, the essence of Iswara and to teach them the benefits of knowing the Athma and Brahman to reach the highest realm, the Vaikundam, Sarveswaran Sriman Narayanan desired that some of His Nithyasurigal to descend to the southern part of the country. Thus the Acharyas were born and followed the Azhwars in their task of preaching Srivaihnavam and the philosophy of Saranagathi (self surrender) to the suffering adiyars (devotees). The first Acharya of the GURUPARAMPARA Sri NATHAMUNI was born in Veeranarayanapuram. Sri Nadamunigal, with his father and brothers, was living in Veeranarayanapuram doing kainkaryam and worship to Lord Mannar of Veeranarayanapuram. Once when Sri Nadamuni was away on Divyadesa yathra to the North, Perumal Mannar came in his dreams and advised him to go back to Veeranarayanapuram. When he was back attending to nithiya kainkaryam to Lord Mannar, a few Srivaishnavas who came to worship Lord Mannar started singing the first pasuram of 8th Thiruvaimozhi starting with “Aravamudeâ€. On hearing the pasuram Sri Nadamunigal with great enthusiasm asked the Srivaishnavas whether they knew the entire Prabandam. But they said that they knew only the first Pasuram. From that day onwards Sri Nadamuni got inspired and his desire to acquire the thousand rhymes of the first Thiruvaimozhi had increased manifold. After a while Sri Nadamuni went in search of Thiruvaimozhi and reached Thirukurugur, the birth place of Sri Nammazhwar. But no body knew the Prabandam. Sri Nadamunigal never abandoned his search. He had an opportunity to get the Upadesam of ˜Kanninun Siruththambu " from Sri Prangusa Dasar, who was closely associated with Sri Madurakavi Azhwar. Sri Nadamuni sat in penance before Sri Namazhwar vigraham (statue) which he was worshiping and started chanting Kanninun Siruththambu in several thousand times on Japam. Pleased with the Bhakthi and the true desire of Sri Nadamuni, Sri Nammazhwar gave Prathyatsham (appearing before him in Divya Swaroopa) and blessed Sri Nathamuni with Divya Gnanam (Divine knowledge) and taught him not only the Thiruvaimozhi but the entire four thousand Divyaprabandams rendered by other Azhwars. Sri Nadamuni carefully compiled the Nalayira Divyaprabandams and rendered in melodious chanting of the Pasurams as desired by Lord Mannar. With the help of his nephews Sri Melayagathazhwar and Sri Kizhaiagathazhwar, Sri Nathamuni propagated and spread the glory of the Divayaprabandhams to every nook and corner of South India . But for the very great efforts of Sri Nathamuni, the first in the hierarchy of the Poorvachar, we would not have been blessed with the Divine teachings of the Azhwars. Sri Periyazhwar in his Thirupallandu of the Mudalayiram (the first thousand pasurams) seeks the blessings for the sacred association of the Adiyars (devotees) and the Nithiya Vibhoothis of the highest Realm, the Vaikuntam extend for an indefinite period of Palakodi Noorayiram years. The first two Pasurams preaches the Thirumandiram and hence it is necessary that every baghavathas get this anubhavam through his Acharya. Worship through the Guruparampara Beginning with Lord Lakshminathan Having Nathamunigal and Yamunaithuraivar in the middle Ending with our own acharya Jai Srimannarayana!
