Mulam-3

To keep the

glory of Thirumndiram, it should be chanted with reverence and bhakthi.

Q.1. How to

Chant Thirumandiram?

A.

While

chanting Thirumndiram one should be very careful and keep the mind concentrated

and secure. Thirumandiram is the

embodiment of the essence of Vedas, contains all that is required to be

explained, stand high of all mantras and is the sacred of all sacred

things. Therefore, one should chant the Manthiram

by concentrating the mind without any distraction without reaching the ears of

those who do not desire Mukthi.

Q2. What is Artha Panjaga Gnanam?

A.

It

means (a) the course of Athma (b) the course of Iswar © the benefits Athma

attains (d) how to get such benefits (f) the evil hindrances to attain the

benefits of Athma; to get the detailed knowledge of these five swaroopas, Athma

swaroopa, Iswara swaroopa, the swaroopa of benefits, the swaroopa of solutions,

the swaroopa of overcoming the evil hindrance to realize Athma, is called Artha Panjga Gnanam.

The

Manthram will benefit one who knows what Thirumandiram envisages, one who

learns the essence of the Mandiram, listen with Bhakthi and prema (love) as explained

and preached by the Acharya.

Q. 1. What

benefits the Thirumandiram gives?

A. The

Thirumandiram offers and establishes that Iswar possesses the following sacred

qualities:

(a)

Seshithvam (the quality of Supreme Savior) (b) Saranyathvam (the

quality of safeguarding those who surrender) © Prapyathvam (the means of

experience of Iswar). Even this sacred

material of Iswar (of this Mandiram) is in possession of the Acharya. Therefore this Mandiram will do well to a

person who learns it from his Acharya with bakthi to the best of his ability.

Q. 2.

What is Seshithvam?

A. Seshithvam means the act of accepting and

receiving the kainkaryam of the Adiyars (devotees) of Iswara. Chetana is the sheshabootham (devotee) of

Iswar as said in Pranavam (OHM). But

there is no mention of Iswar being a Sheshy of chetana. However, if chetana is seshabootham of

Iswara, the meaning that Iswara is a sheshy of chetana will be known without

being explicitly mentioned (i.e. thulya viththi vedya dya). Therefore, in Pranavam (Ohm) Iswara has

seshithvam (the quality of Supreme Saviour) will be logically known.

Q.3.

“Tulya Vikththi Vedya Daya†– Explain.

A.

Inferring a hypothetical fact (not expressed) in a sentence is called

Tulya Vikththi Vedya Dya. For example, a

person is a servant for a king; this will mean the king is the master for the

servant. Such inference is called thulya

viththi vedya dyaâ€

Q.4. Saranyathvam – Explain.

A. The

quality of practicing Saranagathi (self surrender) is called Saranyathvam. The middle word in Thirumandiram , ‘NAMA’

means that “I do not belong to myselfâ€. Therefore one will get the answer that one

belongs to Iswara and HE is his savior.

Q.5

Prappiyathvam - Explain

A.

The object of the nature that we experience on worshipping the Supreme,

the Iswara, is called ‘prappyathvam’. The word at the end of Pranavam (Ohm) is

‘Narayana’. The combination of the words

Naran + Ayanam, we get ‘Narayana’. The

word ‘Nara’ will

mean both ‘Asith’ and ‘Sith’. However,

one should discard Asith and mean only Sith taking into account the ability of

Jeevathma constituted with Sith. When

the word “Ayanam’ is derived from the components of either the word ‘IN’ or

‘AYA’ it will be realized that in one’s Karma the ultimate supreme experience

will be Iswara. Therefore, Bhagavan is

the Prapyathvam. The means to

attain(Prapyam), the means to get direction (Upeyam) and the possibility (Sadhyam)

are all refer to one objective, to attain Bhagavan , the Sarva Swamy

Sarveswaran, Sriman Narayanan.

Q.6. What is meant by Sacred Preaching

(Upadesithal by Acharya in accordance with Vedic Scriptures?

A.

(a) When an Acharya preaches to hi syshys, he should not think that he

is an acharya for his syshyas;

(b) The Acharya should think that his Acharya is his syshy’s Acharya and

his syshya is what he was to his Acharya;

© The Acharya should not desire for his syshyas’ kainkaryams or

wealth;

(d) The Acharya should take his syshyas as one who deserves katatsham of

Bhagavan;

(e) The Acharya should not think that ‘if he trains his syshyas to shun

evil and follow a path of good will, good behavior, bhkthi and faith in his

endevour, the Acharya will be bestowed with the kadatsham of Bhagavan. The Acharya should not think that he will get

the cooperation of his syshya by living together. Only if these sacred norms are meticulously

followed while preaching his syshyas, it will be considered as sacred preaching

(Upadesithal) according to the Vedic Scriptures.
