THE CLASSICAL DIVINE TAMIL SEN THIRATHA TAMIL OSAI VADA SOLLAGI

The depth into which Sri PeriyavAhAn piLLai goes into while presenting us the VyAkyanam is amazing, indeed.

As we saw in the precdeing postings, he goes far beyond just simple meanings.

AzvAr, first established the Supremacy of EmperumAn over other deities, in the first line of the fourth pAsuram of TirunedunthANTAkam.

He then brought the fact, the He is the indweller of the five elements.

Then he mentions the EmperumAn's association with the languages tamil and sanksrit.

While mentioning this AzvAr mentions tamil first and also gives the adjective to this language as

'senthiratha tamizh Osai'

Sri PeriyavAchAn piLLai, true to his spirit, reasons out why tamil is given priority over the northern language -sanksrit.

These are

a. sarvAdhikAram. :Unlike sanksrit, tamil can be learnt and studied by one and all.

b. Clarity of Thought: AzvAr-s aruLicheyal brings about clarity of thought and establishes the Supremacy of EmperumAn and His ausipicous qualities in unequovocal terms unlike the vEdAs which are like murky water.

c. PramANam: Further, AzvAr-s works are unquestionable evidences themselves and are standalone ones.

d. thAm izhindha thuRai: Moreover, this is the language Kaliyan had unassialable hold and it is his field.

These and several other factors are indeed the reasons for priority and therfore it is mentioned as

'senthiRatha thamizh Osai ..'

Did not BashyakArar take cues from aruLicheyal while doling out to us The SrI BAshyam.

Did not svAmi Desikan categorically state that study of the tamil works of AzvAr-s facilitate clear understanding of vEdams and upanishads?

'seiyya thamizh maRai mAlaigaL theLiya Odhi-theLiyAdha maRai nilangaL theLindhozhindhOmEA''

Indeed such a classical analysis of this in those times and this has been corroborated by later period AchAryas like Sri VEDantha Desikana and svAmi MaNavALa mAmunikaL
