VADuga Nambi the die-hard disciple of Sri RamAnuja , we all know does not hail from TirukkuRunkuDi. Why then the title ' TirukkuRunkuDi -VADuga Nambi'Thirukkurungudi Nambi is famously regarded as SriVaishnava Nambi in our tradition. This is the name offered to the Lord of Thirukkurungudi by swAmi rAmAnuja after teaching him dwayam. The interactions such as this between Nambi and swAmi are very extra-ordinary and enjoyable.One such incident is relevant to the ongoing discussion of "mistaken identities". When swAmi was in Tiruvananthapuram ( as per Tirukkurungudi divyadesa vaibhavam )., Thirukkurungudi Nambi, desiring to enjoy the position of serving Sri RamAnujA (dAsavruththiyin rasam aRiya), saw to it that Sri RamAnujA woke up at Tirukkurunkudi-whereas he had slept at Tiruvananthapuram.. After performing his routine duties, swAmi wore the twelve Uurdhvapundrams on his tirumEni. It was customary for Sri vaduganambi, a great disciple and devotee of swAmi to wear his urdhvapundrams from what was left of swAmi's wearing. So, unmindful of the change in location, swAmi called out, "vadugA!".How could Vaduganambi, who was left in Tiruvananthapuram come at Tirukkurungudi? LO! indeed, Vaduganambi walked to swAmi and wore his Urdhvapundrams from what was left of swAmi's wearing them. SwAmi, however couldn't understand a wry smile on Vaduganambi's face.

Vaduganambi departed soon afterwards and as swAmi entered the sanctum sanctorum of Tirukkurungudi Nambi, he realised where he was. He called out,"vadugA! vadugA!", but nobody responded. SwAmi understood that none of his disciples were with him. Then who did partake of the pundram? SwAmi's eyes fell on the same mysterious smile dancing on the lotus lips of Tirukkurungudi Nambi.'The Mysterious smile as reply to the mystery of the mistaken identity!'adiyen ranganatha ramanujadasan
