Guest guest
Sri:Srimathe Ramanujaya Nama: Thiruppavai and Divyadesams by Sri PB Annangarachariar Swami Pasuram: Notru SuvargamDivyadesam: Thirukkatkarai Those who seek the Lord are of two types: thosewho follow siddhOpAya and those who followsAdhyOpAya. They are also known as paragatasvIkAranishtar and svagatasvIkAra nishtar. As mentionedin Nayamatmashruti "yamEvaishavruNutE tEna labhya:",those who are sought by Him will not fail to gaineternal service. Such devotees no longer need toperform any austerities to attain Him. They aredescribed as "seydha vELviyar vaiththEvar" by Nammazhvar in his Thiruvaymozhi. It is this uttamAdhikAri who has completed everything (nOtru) and now performs service forever without any separation (suvargam puguginRa), who is described by Andal in this pasuram in the very first line. So, where is the experience of the divyadesam ofThirukkatkarai in this pasuram? In his pasuramfor this divyadesam, Nammazhvar says "vArik koNduennai vizhunguvan kAnil enRu, ArvuRRa ennai ozhiyaennil munnam pAriththu, thAn ennai muRRap paruginAn,kAr okkum kAtkarai appan kadiyanE" (Thiruvaymozhi9-6-10). This is a description of the same adhikArithat Andal has done in this pasuram. In addition, Azhvar describes this divyadesam as "theruvellAm kAvikamazh thirukkAtkarai" (Thiruvaymozhi 9-6-1). That is, this divyadesamcarries a very fragrant smell. This pasuram ofAndal carries the fragrance of the divine Tulasi("nARRath thuzhAy mudi").
