Guest guest
Dear devotees, This is by way of introducing myself and my wife Padmashree (soon to join this group). We are aspiring devotees of Sriman Narayana. We have made small amounts of progress over the last few years in trying to find a spiritual path to follow. By the Lord's grace, our spiritual ambitions have crystallized towards the Sri Vaishnava/Ramanuja Sampradayam. We were not born into the Sri Vaishnava lineage. I was born into a Telugu Brahmin family and wife in a Tamil Iyer family. We are trying to improve our knowledge and devotion by learning more about the Ramanuja Sampradayam. Presently our sources of knowledge are the Upanyasams of Sri Velukkudi Krishnan Swami. We would like to interact with devotees in this virtual forum to further this quest. Hopefully, by the blessings of the Lord, we will eventually find an acharya and get initiated. Thanks for giving an opportunity for our spiritual progress. Guest guest
Om namo bhagavathe vasudevaya. Dear devotees, Thank you for accepting me in this group. I'm writing as a follow up to my husband's email below. Please guide as as to what our next step should be. What is the right way to approach an acharya to request samashryanam for us (not born in a Sri Vaishnava family) ? Are there any pre-requisites for samashryanam? Until then, what daily spiritual practices can we follow? We live in Denver. We would be grateful to have association of bhagavathas in the area. All glories to Sri Ramanuja and Sriman Narayana. Guest guest
Dear Sri Rajappa Tadepalli,You wrote:>>>>>Hopefully, by the blessings of the Lord, we will eventually find an acharya and get initiated<<<<<<Greetings to you and welcome onboard. aDiyEn is a silent member of this group: mainly because of aDiyEn's ignorance. Just writing to wish you and your family all the best - hoping that you will find a sadAcArya at the earliest. Just a point I would like to make: There is no preparation required, to get initiated into the sampradAyam. Once you have got the desire, you can just go straight away to an AcArya (preferably along with a senior bhAgavata who you are close to) and pray to be initiated. The choice is His. Usually, our parents' AcAryan becomes our AcAryan. Since in your case you have not had that background, you can approach an AcAryan whose Atma guNams influence you.Do kindly excuse me if this mail sounds inappropriate.rAmAnuja dAsan-r.varadarAjan--- On Mon, 4/13/09, jappa_310 <jappa_310 wrote:jappa_310 <jappa_310[sri ramanuja] New members introductionramanuja Date: Monday, April 13, 2009, 1:14 PM Dear devotees, This is by way of introducing myself and my wife Padmashree (soon to join this group). Guest guest
Dear Sri Rajappa Swamin Your interest in Vaishnavism is to be much appreciated and respected. It is wonderful that you are able to follow Shri Velukkudi Swamy's upanyasams which are about the best guidelines we can get today in so many practical ways. As a humble suggestion, you may kindly start reading nd learning the Alwars' Divya Prabhandams - which is available in Tamil and Telugu scripts. Thiruppallandu, Thiruppaliezhuchi and Thiruppavai are the fundamental Prabhandams which every Vaishnavite ought to learn to recite; followed by Amalanathipiran and Kanninunsiruthambu. Guest guest
Dear Smt. Padmashree Rajappa, Personally I am unqualified to answer a very significant query you raised. There are learned seniors in this forum who may be able to provide guidance. However, as a humble suggestion - you may approach the Thirumalai Thrithandi Jeeyar Mutt - they could advise you the right path. They do have a website as well as branches all over the USA. Guest guest
Jai Srimannarayana. srimathE Ramanujaya namaha adiyEn Ramanuja dasi. Respected bhagavatas, As a follow up to our initial email below and all the helpful and welcoming replies from many of you, we are pleased to inform you that His Holiness Sri Sri Sri Chinna Jeeyar Swami has accepted us as His sishyas on June 7 09 - Vaikasi Kettai - Parasara Bhattar Tirunakshatram - in Houston, Texas. Please accept our humble pranams. We are immensely grateful to Swamiji who has given us lost souls shelter,to all of you who have guided us in this endeavour and to Thayar and Perumal for pulling us towards Them like a magnet (the pace at which everything fell into place after we wrote the initial email to this group could ONLY be due to Them). We had the good fortune of spending 3 days listening to Swamiji's pravachanams and participating in other programs. It was very hard leaving His presence to return to Denver. But we have very precious memories to hold on to until we are blessed with opportunities to serve Him. I have been reading all the wonderful emails that are exchanged in this group. I would especially like to mention a few that have really touched my heart. The experience of a blessed bhagavata waiting in Srirangam in the hot sun observing the blind old man, the tired elderly lady etc; the Nammalwar article - being a newbie Vaishnava I learnt a lot about the great Alwar in the Sampradaya; the photos of home deities - as another bhagavata has mentioned They are so happy to reside in your blessed home that They are giving you the opportunities; the update about a bhagavata's trip to Sriperumbudur temple of Sri Ramanujacharya; the updates about the blessed children reciting the Divyaprabhandams; information on kainkaryams in the various Divyadesams..I could go on and on about what all touched my heart because in one way or the other they all do. I'm sorry I couldn't write back immediately and I'm mentioning them all together here. We have also been blessed with the association of wonderful bhagavata families in the area and the opportunity to participate in Sampradayic activities in Sri Venkateswara temple - a balalayam currently. Imagine the level of our contamination which prevented us from visiting this temple for nearly 2 yrs even after knowing it existed! Our loyalties were towards a generic Hindu temple. Only slightly after joining this group, it even occurred to us - why not go there and see if we are blessed with bhagavata association? and guess what? We are and that too instantly! All of a sudden a whole new world opened up in front of our eyes.. It is so true and very apparent that Perumal never takes our freewill away but He is always waiting for us to look in His direction. adiyEn Padmashree Ramanuja dasi ramanuja , " Padmashree " <padmashree.rt wrote: > > Om namo bhagavathe vasudevaya. > Dear devotees, > Thank you for accepting me in this group.
