Cool summer – a coolant camp during summer vacation

A summer camp was planned to ease the brain from study in a tight schedule. Ammangar had selected a beautiful spot in Divya desams with a number of cool streams, ponds, hillocks, giant trees etc – a cool and ancient divya desam, Vanamamalai. When Ammangar revealed the plan, Srimaan Bhattar Gurukulam and Srimaan Bhattar Kuzham students were very happy and started counting down the days to the excursion. As parents were also enthusiastic to join, a bus was arranged.

The summer camp was designed to visit Nava Thiruppathis also along with instilling spot knowledge of Sampradhaya importance. The journey started cheerfully on 6th May at 10.00 pm, the bus full of more than 50 children and about 15 parents who eagerly wanted to perform volunteer service. All the children's and volunteers’ happiness reached the peak when our Swami also joined in the party.

The group reached Vanamamalai in the morning and set their sojourn at the mutt and took a bath in the holy “Setruthamarai Theertham”. It was very fortunate of us to have a darshan of “Therottam” of Vanamamalai. Then the children performed a series of speeches at the mutt in the presence of the Jeeyar Swami. Jeeyar swami, who had already offered mangalasasanams to our children many times, was pleased very much to hear the children speak about the mutt and every pattam Jeeyar swamis, Kaishika Puranam etc. Jeeyar swami further added to the children’s information with more specific and important details. It was very jubilant to be with Jeeyar swami – all to ourselves with no disturbances – for more than 2 hours. Jeeyar swami was very pleased with the children as well as Swami and Ammangar for their full dedication to Sampradayam and service to the society.

In the evening we got a blessed opportunity to have darshan of Perumal and Thayar exchanging garlands.

On 8th May all the team went to Thirukkurungudi and had darshan of “Malaimel Nambi”, “Thirumangai Mannan Thiruvarasu (holy tomb)”, Thirupparkadal Nambi” “Ninra Nambi”, “Kidantha Nambi” and “Veetriruntha Nambi”. To add greater joy to the experience, we enjoyed the “ Vasanthothsavam” festival at the sannidhi of “Nindra Nambi”.

On 9th morning, the team reached Azhwar Thirunagari and had a holy bath dipping in the canal of “Thamiraparani river”. Azhwar Thirumanjanam (Chithirai Visakam) was performed when we went for Darshan.

We had Darshan of all 9 of the Nava Thiruppathi except Thirukkolur (as it became very late)

The tour gave us a very good chance to learn a lot about importance of the Pandiya Nadu Divya Desams. The sojourn helped us to increase our affection towards Perumal and Thayar who are found in various beautiful forms and places. It was very fortunate that we were able to participate in the festivals of the Divya dessams too. We also had a rare opportunity to be in the association of Swami and Ammangar continuously for 3 days. Perumal and Thayar should certainly bless us with more strength to be attached to our Sampradayam and love it and to serve in the path our ancestors have shown.
