misrEbhyO nama ukthim matheemahE

Our

Srivaishnava sampradayam continues unhindered today, even after generations of

external and internal turmoil due to the deep rooted foundation of principles

established by our long chain of revered acharyas (guru parampara).  Among the many leaders/preceptors in our

sampradayam some deserve credit due to their Shisya lakshana,(Characteristics

of a Student) some due to their Acharya lakshana, ,(Characteristics of a

Teacher)  some due to their deep bhagavat

bhakthi,(Devotion towards the lord) some due to their bhagavata seva

(dhadheeyaradhana) (Service to devotees) and others due to their acharya abhimana

(Devotion to their teachers) and kainkarya (Divine Service).  All our acharyas had the above qualities but

one quality was predominant and hence gave them the fame.  But if we have to name one acharya who had

all the above qualities completely, it is none other than Swamy KoorathAzhvan,

the foremost disciple of Swamy Ramanuja.

 

Sri

Andal in her thiruppavai says, “vaiyaththu vAzhveergAlâ€Â  Are we all not living in this world why does

andal call a set of people as “oh! Those who live in this world� According to

andal those gokula vases (residents of Gokulam town) who were blessed to live

in the time of krishnavatara and enjoy his childish pranks (bala leelas) are

those who live.  But we all missed Rama

and Krishna. 

We also missed Swamy emperumanar and Swamy koorathAzhvan but still we

are blessed to enjoy their seva in archa form.

 

Swamy

Nammazhvar in thiruvaimozhi says, “vAzhindhArgal vAzhindhadhu mAmazhaimokkuLin

mAyindhu mAyindhu†(4-1-6) Those who once lived with wealth and fame vanished

like the water bubbles from this world and also from everyone’s memory.  But after 1000 years today we still remember,

cherish and aspire to celebrate the sahasravarusham (1000th year) of

Swamy koorathAzhvan.  Shouldn’t all

Srivaishnavas jump to grab this very rare opportunity to be part of this great

acharya kainkaryam?  How else can we show

our gratitude towards this great acharya who gave his eyes for the sake of

sampradayam (“darshanaththukkAga darshanaththai thandhavarâ€).

 

How

to do the same?

 

We

can do it mano (mentally meditate on the greatness/athma gunas of swamy

kooraththAzhvan and try to follow the practices of swamy to the extent

possible), vak (speak the greatness of swamy and spread swamy’s message to one

and all), kAyam (physical service – preparing for the celebration and during

the 10 day utsavam and forever), Monetary kainkaryam .

1000th year mahotsava malar.

 

It

is the duty of each and every srivaishnava to be part of this grand celebration

in some way or the other and become swamy koorathAzhvan’s sambhandhi.

 

When

adiyen is already a Ramanuja dAsa/dAsee what is the necessity to get swamy

koorathAzhvan’s sambhandham?

 

This

very question has the answer.  If we are

Srivaishnavas and proclaim to be ramanuja dAsan/dAsee then can we stay away

from doing service to “mozhiyai kadakkum perum pugazhan vanjamukkurumbham

kuzhiyai kadakkum nam kuraththAzhvan� 

Swamy Emperumanar celebrated his relation with Azhvan and declared to

the world that only Azhvan’s sambhandham has assured him moksha.  The sloka “arvAnchO…†confirms the same

“sOyam rAmAnujamunirapi sveeya mukthim karasthAmâ€Â  If Azhvan’s sambhandham assured moksha for

Swamy Ramanuja celebrated as “Vishnu loka manimandapa mArgadhAyee†what other

proof is required to determine our participation in swamy’s kainkaryam?

 

Adiyen

will not make a mistake requesting you all to take part in this acharya

kainkaryam because each one of us have equal responsibility in making this

celebration a grand success.  We all plan

weeks ahead for attending a party, we await and celebrate our wedding

day/birthday lavishly every year shouldn’t we plan, prepare, await and cherish

swamy’s 1000th year?

 

Dear Bhagavathas, please think

and act fast. Spread the message to one and all.  Make everyone you know to get the blessings

of our revered acharya.
