Can any other day be better than Vaikasi Visakam, the avathara day of Kuzhandhai Muni(Namazhwar) for starting a school for Kuzhandhais (prospective munis)!! Like the suns’ rays, these luminous little azhwars, with a satchel on their shoulders, treaded their way to Acharya and started imbibing knowledge with utmost earnestness. To get streamlined and focused, each one of us needs orientation. Be it the child or parent, a direction to act is always sought. The parents need to master the art of taming/refining the energy bubbling child and the child needs to master himself. The parents of Acharya school pupils were very fortunate to benefit from one such orientation programme organized by Acharya school. It was held at the premises of Acharya school on 27th June between 10:30am and 5pm. With the naughty young ones on their laps, the parents were all attention for the talk of Smt. Shanthi Bala. Smt.Shanthi Bala is the Directress of the TVS school in Madurai. She is also the directress of11 more schools in and around Madurai. A soft spoken woman radiating immense positive energy, her presence itself brought sincerity and focus in the minds of the parents. She has been into training children and teachers from 1980s. She has traversed the length and breath of our country and has been to some of the most backward areas in Tamil Nadu. Her sole purpose was to educate the village children. Smt. Shanthis’ speech at Acharya school left an indelible impression in the minds of one and all present there. When a child scores well, the parents boasts it as their victory. But when a child flounders and goes down in performance, they coolly point fingers at him and escape responsibility. Smt. Shanthi cautioned against such a narrow minded attitude and pleaded the gathering to throw these habits to the dogs! The need of the hour was a parent-child partnership. The parent should partake in both the sunny and dark days of the child. This would surely provide confidence and relief to the child who thinks he is alone in the academic crusade. He would understand his parents aren’t work extracting bosses but a work sharing benign partner. This’ll pave way for a unbreakable child-parent relationship. Smt. Shanthi also briefed on the methods of handling anger, anxiety, irritation and other behavioral problems parents would need to tackle when confronted with while dealing with children. The need to give children their own space was also emphasized by her. She stressed the need to shower love on children. They aren’t a means to achieve our dreams and likes. They are the architects of our society and our perspective should be broad enough to accommodate the nations need while developing our kids. As Albert Einstien quoted ‘ When we think deeply, we can conclude that each man ultimately lives for the society.’ The parents stood baffled at her eloquent and conscience pricking speech. Realization did dawn upon them. They put forth their queries and Smt Shanthi ensured a satisfactiory reply. In her concluding words, Smt Shanthi expressed awe at the way Acharya school had been designed. She, in her 35 years of experience hadn’t witnessed a Montessori school blended with vedic education. She wished to adopt some innovative techniques from Acharya school. Sri Parasara Badrinarayana Bhattar swamy proposed the vote of thanks. He emphasized the importance of Lord Rama in our life. Rama had faced the extremes of life with great calmth. Swamy entreated the gathering to emulate the ways of Lord Rama ;success would follow our foot steps. This was why Acharya school’s main hall was filled with the beautiful paintings of Lord Rama and his life. The budding leaders of Acharya school would learn from Lord Rama. The orientation programmed ended with the parents lauding the efforts of Acharya school in organizing such an intellectual extravaganza. They felt it an eye-opener.
