FESTIVITY IN SAMPRADHAYA PRIMARY AVANI AVITTAM

 

All Vidhyarthis of Gurukulam were very eagerly awaiting Avani Avittam (Upakarma) day which fell on 05.Aug.09.  For 5 vidhyarthis it was the Primary (Thalai) Avani Avittam while the others had already experienced the ritual.  Early in the morning on Upakarma day, the vidhyarthis had bath in Kollidam River after the sampradhaya shouram and assembled for the ritual function.  Sri.U.Ve. Raman Bhattacharya, a noted veteran in Pancharathna Aghama performed all the rituals.  The Kamokarishi Japam was performed initially and after that all had Appam and took bath again with well water and wore new clothes.  Homam was conducted and all rituals like Medha Suktham, Kantarishi Darpanam, Vidhyabhyasam, Samitha Danam and others were elaborately performed by the swami.  All vidhyarthis wore the sacred threads along with appropriate mantras.

A grand Thiruvaradhana was performed in chorus by all.  Verses from Divya Prabhandham, Thiruppallandu, Thiruppavai etc. were recited followed by satrumurai.  To complete the japam a special (Alankara) Thaligai was prepared for Naivedhyam.  The enjoyment of this function will remain in our memory for a long time.  Parents of the Vidhyarthis who celebrated Thalai Avani Avittam were invited and their presence added more pleasure to the function.
