Tradition of distributing wet MANJAL (turmaric) in Thayaar temple at Srirangam

Dear Bhaagavathas,

 

Can some learned men can high light on - Normally KUMKUM is offered in all Lakshmi temples. However, WET TURMARIC paste is given as blessing from AMMA in Thayaar Sannidhi at Sriragam temple. I would like to know the details about this tradition.
