Guest guest
Srimathe ramanujaya NamahaDear Srivaishnavas, Today is the Monthly thirunakshatam of swamy emperumanar (Iyppasi Thiruvadirai).  This will be a very apt day to enjoy the meaning of the thaniyan “Yo nithyamachyutha… ramanujasya charaNau sharaNam prapathyE† Swamy koorathAzhvan in his first divine work Sri vaikunthastavam, one among the 5 gems (panchastavams) starts the first sloka showing his due regards to his revered acharya swamy Ramanuja. Azhvan elaborates the greatness of ethirajar and surrenders to his divine feet.  Anvayam: “Ya: nithyam achytha padhAmbhuja yugma Rugma vyAmOhatha: tat etharAni trunAya mEnE, asya dayA eka sindhO: bhagavatha: asmat gurO: rAmAnujasya charaNau sharaNam prapathyE† Gold prices are raising day by day. Why? Gold is regarded so precious and there is not a single person in this world who hates a gold ornament. Possessing gold is considered to be valuable and a great asset.  Azhvan says ‘My acharya is not an exception. Swamy is also crazy about gold!’ Really? Ethirajar crazy about gold? Yes but the gold he was crazy about is different. Swamy Ramanujar was crazy about the golden feet of achyutha, the Lord who resides in koil, thirumalai, perumal koil and other divyadesams and never leaves hold of his devotees. Swamy Ramanuja was crazy about that divine golden feet of emperuman and never bothered about anything else in this world   Achyuthan (pranathArthiharAchutha! – Thirukachchinambi calls aththivaradan) Thiruvarangathamudhanar says – “Thenaththiyoorar kazhalinaikeezh pooNdavanbhAlan iramanusanâ€. So here achyuthan can refer to the Lord of aththigiri, kanchi Sri pErarulAlan (or) Achyuthan (pachchai mA malai pol mENi pavala vAi kamala senkan achythA!- Thondaradipodi azhvar calls Sri Ranganatha as achyuthan) Amudhanar says – “ponnaranga mennil mayalE perugum iramanusanâ€Â So achyuthan can also refer to Lord of Srirangam.  (Asmat GurO: ) Guru refers to the dispeller of ignorance/darkness. Amudhanar says, “kadalaLavAya desai ettinuLLum kaliyiruLE midai taru kAlaththirAmAnusan mikka nANmaRaiyin sudarOLiyAl avviruLai turaththilanEl vuyirai vudaiyavan nAraNan endru arivArillai vuttrunarindhE†Who else than swamy Ramanuja, who came to dispel the darkness in this Kali can be called as ‘Guru’?  (bhagavatha:) ‘Bhagavat’ sabdham can be used only to refer to one who possesses all the 6 kalyana gunas, viz., jnana, shakthi, bala, Ishvarya, veerya and Tejas. Swamy himself establishes in Sribhashyam that this holds good only for Sriman Narayanan, the Supreme Lord. But Azhvan uses that word to refer to Swamy Ramanuja How? Swamy Ramanuja can also be called as bhagavan because of the following reasons, Swamy is Sri Parthasarathi avataram, so bhagavan himself“Peedagavadai pirAnAr pirama guruvAgi vandhu†(Lord himself comes down as the first guru)“sAkshAt nArAyanO deva: kruthva marthyamayeem tanoom, maknAn uddharathE lOkAn kAruNyAt sAstrapAninAâ€â€œmanmisai Yonigal dhORum pirandhu engal mAdhavanE kaNNuRa niRkilum kAnakillA vulagOrgaellAm aNNal iramanusan vandu thOndriya appozhudhE naNNarujnAnam talai koNdu nAranarkkAyinarE† (asya) While there is a ‘yat’ in the first line as per general rule the next line should have a ‘tat’ but since azhvan’s mind always meditated on the divine form of swamy emperumanar he was visualizing the darshan each moment (“kAshAya shOpi kamaneeya shikAnivEsam daNta trayOjjvala karam vimalOpaveetham, vutyattinEsa nibha mullasa dhoorthva pundram roopam tavAsti ethiraja! trushOr mamAgrEâ€) and hence uses ‘edham sabdham’ (used to refer an object close to us) instead of ‘tat sabdham’ (used to refer to something far away).  (dayaikasindhO: ) Ocean of Mercy. Our poorvacharyas can be classified into two categories (a) Anuvritti prasannAcharyas b) krupAmAthra prasannAcharyas. Unlike Thirukotiyur nambi who made even swamy Ramanuja walk many times from sriangam to thirukottiyur to get Rahasya arthas swamy Ramanuja made it easy for all by appointing 74 simhasanadhipathis (thereby acharyas became more easily accessible) and making them give the arthas to all those who were interested (“AsaiyudaiyOrkellAm koorum endru pEsi varanbharuththArâ€). Swamy went to the extent of going against his acharya’s word for the benefit of the ignorant interested souls.  (charNau sharaNam prapathyE) I fall into that Ramanuja’s divine feet. Like a new born child being more fond of the mother’s breasts, Srivaishnavas fall prey to the divine feet of swamy Ramanuja. Srimad Ramanuja charanau sharaNam prapathyE Srimathe Ramanujaya Namaha                            KoorathAzhvan thiruvadigalE sharaNam  Question for the next posting: ‘Srinidhi’ this name is now so common among the Srivaishnava kids both male and female. Whom does this name actually refer to? Where has koorathAzhvan answered the same in his panchastavam?  P.S: Considering the length of the posting adiyen has not elaborated the pramanas.   Adiyen’s heartfelt gratitude to Sri PBA swamy for the excellent vyakhyanam for this sloka. Jagatguru:†[i swear and say that swamy ethirajar alone is the jagatguru]. At this point Adiyen can swear and tell the best medicine for all the calamities in this world and also the personal tensions and blood pressures in each one of us is the knowledge about the life of swamy koorathazhvan. Just knowing the medicine is not enough we need to take it in and the body has to accept it. Similarly if each one of us learn about swamy koorathazhvan and try to change our lives according to what swamy showed (please note: swamy did not preach but practiced and showed us how to live) peace and happiness will surely flow in all our lives.  Even those who missed the sahasravarusha thirunakshatra celebrations of Sri Kanchipurna thirukachchi nambigal (Masi Mirugaseerusham 2009) please don’t miss this divine celebration (Thai Hastham 2010) of Swamy koorathazhvan sahasravarusham. This is once in a life time opportunity, Mark your calendars nothing else is more important than showing our gratitude towards our revered acharyas, that will make emperuman happy, emperumanar happy and as a result all of us happy.  As part of adiyen’s kainkaryam, adiyen will continue to write small postings on Swamy koorathazhvan to share and enjoy as instructed by geethacharyan “bOdhayantha parasparamâ€. Let us make Koorathazhvan the main subject of all our discussion forums and show special credit to the revered acharya.  “arvAnchO yatpadasarija dvantva mAsridya, poorvE  moordhnA yasyAnvaya mupagadha dEsikO mukthi mApu:  sOyam rAmAnujamunirapi sveeya mukthim karasthAm  yatsambhandhAt amanugatham varinyathE kooranatha:† [Even That Ramanuja who uplifted his shisyas through his divine feet and his acharyas through his divine head, confirmed his moksha due to the sambhandham of koorathazhvan. How can we measure the greatness of that Azhvan?-vAchAmagOcharam, mozhiyai kadakkum perum pugazhAn]  Question for the next posting: We all recite the following thaniyan every day, you might be aware that Azhvan wrote this thaniyan but in which work does this appear and what is the meaning? “YO nithyamachyutha padAmbhuja yugmarugma….â€Asmad gurubhyO namahaAdiyen ramanuja dAsan/dAseeVaradarajan/Sumithra P.S: Adiyen will grab the opportunity to write if none of you take the same. For more details on the celebration visit www.kuresan.com or www.vedics.net  --
