Guest guest
While a devout shishya of SriRamanuja catapulted him to the status of Bhashyakaarar through his flawless recollection of the Bhodhayana Vritthi grantham , a sishya of Sri ‘Ramanuja’s incarnation’ brought him laurels through the composition of SriVenkatesha Suprabhatam. While the former thwarted the onslaught of Kudrishtis and prathivadis by lending a helping hand to his Acharyan, the latter carried the ‘threat to opponents’ in his name itself. Well, thanks for guessing it right, we are talking of the two pillars of SriVaishnava Sampradayam, Sri Kooratazhwan and SriPrathivaadi Bhayankaram Annan. Though Azhwan lead a life of utmost humility and simplicity, it didn’t deter him from exhibiting his literary prowess. The works of Azhwan i.e the Pancha Sthavams stand testimony to the literary genius lying dormant in the unassuming persona. The mix of qualities Azhwan possessed can only be compared to that of Lord’s. Emperumaan has the unique ability of possessing contradictory qualities and things at the same time. We call it Viruddha ghatana samarthyam (As Namazhwar and Azhagiya Manavala Perumal Nayanar point out in their respective works).Next to him, only Azhwan has exhibited such splendid traits. At one instance, Azhwan’s heart broke down and he fell unconscious seeing an animal enjoying its prey. Reading the above verses we might feel the compassionate Azhwan couldn’t bear hardships. And that his heart was not designed for it….But nay!!! He was rock solid from within when confronted with threat. The Azhwan who couldn’t bear the sight of a liquid flowing from banana tree(vaazhai maram), went to the extent of plucking off his eyes with his own hands when penalized by the fanatic Chozhan! The fame of Azhwan has stood the test of time. We are into his 1000th thirunakshtram. While the life history of Azhwan throws light on his invincible character, his poetry gives insights into his unfathomable devotion, creativity and brilliance. How better to celebrate his thirunakshtram than to publish his works with their meaning? And whose commentary better apt than the descendent of the sishya of Sri Manavala Mamunigal?(read as Emperumaanar) Hence Sri Kanchi PBA Swami Trust has ventured to bring out the works of Sri Koorathazhwan with Sri Kanchi Prathivadi Bhayankaram Annangarachariar Swamy’s commentary one by one starting with Sundara Baahu sthavam. The people of yesteryear are reminiscent of the way PBA swamy celebrated Maamunigals 600th Thirunakshtram. Swamys absence was deeply felt by one and all on SriPillai Lokachariars 800th thirunakshtram. But unfortunately the Trust wasn’t formed then. Now, people needn’t worry. Swamy lives thro PBA swamy Trust. P.B.A Swamys commentary needs no comments. His strikingly lucid style even of the toughest works has always struck a chord with the readers. The specialty of P.B.A Swamy lies in his word by word meaning of each shloka followed by a brief explanation of the whole shloka. Cost of the book: Rs. 100/= Contact address P B Sampathkumar 15/1, Peyalwar Koil Street, Manoranjitham Flats, Triplicane, Chennai 600 005 Phone no:044 -28440311/9840578410 Email id :pbsampathkumar
