Guest guest
Day 2 of the 5-day, post-satrumurai upanyasams was by Sri U.Ve. ThirukOshtiyur Madhavan swami, who explained about the events leading to Azhvan authoring 'Sri Sundarabahu Sthavam'. A few points.. Three acharyas have chosen to go to ThirukOshtiyur when they became very sad. (1) When Koorathazhvan was not allowed in Srirangam temple because he is Ramanuja dasan (and was allowed because he has good athma guNam, which Azhvan rejected saying that the Athma Gunam is required only so that one would serve his or her Acharyan), he became very sad and went to ThirukOshtiyur first. (2) When PiLLai PiLLai Azhvan's thirumaligai was demolished by king who wanted to build compound wall around the temple, Swami Bhattar was very sad that a sri vaishnavan's thirumaligai was demolished. He want to ThirukOshtiyur - And his sadness reduced as peruman there asked him to give 'NeeLa thunga' and 'Bhootham Sarascha..'. (3) When Sri ManavaLa mamunigaL came to know that there was some argument between his sishyas and Nanjeeyar's sishyas, he became very sad that they argued with Nenjeeyar's sishyas, and swami went and stayed in ThirukOshtiyur. When Azhvan went to thirukoshtiyur, he set up a beautiful garden, and remembering that udayavar's age was 64 at that time (Hope adiyen got the number right), arranged from the adiyaars there to make 64 garlands for peruman. That count is followed even today. From there, Azhvan went to Thirumalirum Cholai. He set up a garden there and followed the kramam that udayavar had set up in Thirumalai. On the 5th day of Margazhi, when Azhvan was taking the garlands to azhagan, and thinking about what Udayavar felt that he should have been born as one of the nanda gopans so that he would have been able to walk putting his hands on krishnan's shoulders like how all his friends did there as His equals, Koorathazhvan cried the whole day. Azhagar came and inquired about the reason for his crying (it was a long and interesting sumvadham). When finally Azhvan explained that he also wished to be born in aayarpadi but it is not possible to make it happen even by peruman, Sundarabahu said that since HE can do Anything, he can make azhvan be born there next time. But Azhvan said 'Ummaal Aagaadhu KaaN' (You cannot do it). Peruman got angry, 'what do you mean I cannot do some thing?' Azhvan then reminded peruman that he had promised in thirumalai (thirupathi), that all the adiyavars of Sri Ramanujar would be given moksham, all the people whom the adiyavars point to would get moksham', etc.. " I am Ramanuja Dasan. How will I get next birth? So 'you cannot do it' " . Peruman replied, 'ThOtrOm, ThOtrOm, ThOtrom'; I lose, you Win. I cannot make you be born there next time, I lose. Azhvan's heart melted at hearing peruman saying like this, and said, 'No, swami, you should not say you lost. Because YOU are also a Ramanuja Dasan!'. With that he continued and created, 'Sundara Bahu Sthavam'. Madhavan swami's description of shoulders of Thirumalirun Cholai Azhagan was exquisite. There were so many other things that swami said, which adiyen wish could recollect now, but it might happen later with Azhvan's anugraham. adiyen dasan.
