Sri:Srimathe ramanujaya nama:Srimad vara vara munaye nama:Today is the auspicious day of Maasi Krishna Paksha Dwaadasi. On this day 1414 AD, RuthirOdkaari varusham (tamil)Sri Manavala Mamuni ascended to ParamaPadam after spending 73 years, 4months and 22 days in this Bharatha desam. In Thiruvallikeni (Chennai) Vanamamalai Mutt we had 5 days of grand celebration (with Thiruvaimozhi Goshti in the evenings for the first 4 days) ending with Thadhiyaradanai on the morning of Dwaadasi. In the evening Sri U.Ve. Pillai Lokam Sthalsayanthuraivar Swamy gave a wonderful upanyasam on the glories of Sri Manavala Mamuni. As his glories are many and are to be remembered/recited by Srivaishnavas everyday, we try to remember/recollect them today. There are many

special qualities which Swamy carries.* He is famously named as Periya Jeeyar. Though he is a Jeeyar like many others in our Sampradayam - Periya perumal (Sri Ranganathan) accepted him as his Acharya in Periya Koil (Sri Rangam). So he became to be called Periya Jeeyar.* Though there are many acharyas in our Sampradayam, Periya Perumal selected Swamy to give lectures for one year (all 360 days without any stop) on Thiruvaimozhi as explained in the Idu 36000 padi (Nampillai's magnum opus) and 4 other vyaakyaanams (6000 padi - Pillaan,9000 padi - Nanjeeyar, 24000 padi - Periya vaachan pillai, 12000 - vadhi kesari jeeyar). The amazing part is Periya Perumal ordered all festivals (including brahma utsavams) to be stopped during this one year when we was eagerly listening to Periya Jeeyar.* It is well known that at the end of the Idu Kaalakshepam, Periya Perumal appeared as a child Periya Perumal and presented a thaniyan to

Swamy which is "SriSailesa daya paathram deepakthyaathi gunaaranvam. Yathiindra pravanam vandhe ramya jaamaatharam munim".* It is also well known that in all temples from Kanyakumari to Himalayas (now outside India too), all sevakalams beginwith saluting Swamy (srisailesa daya paathram...) and ends with (manavala maamnuiye innumoru nootrandirum). This isso because of the divine order of Periya Perumal to all divya desams as soon as he submitted the thaniyan to Swamy thatthis should be the procedure.* Though there are many acharyas in our sampradayam, it was only Swamy who received the sesha paryangam (peedam)from Periya Perumal as Acharya Sambhavanai. Even today, when we go take darshan of Swamy, we can see him on thesesha peedam in all archa vigrahams.* This thiruvadhyayana utsavam itself is unique that - for no other Acharyas in our guru parampara we see this is being celebrated. That is because we have

a living disciple - Periya Perumal - who leads us from the frontin celebrating this grand festival. Today in Srirangam, Periya perumal's archakaas, paricharakaas, paraphernelia (all items),even veenai ekantham, etc - come to serve Swamy in Swamy's Sannidhi. * His bhakthi towards Udayavar is unparallel, never seen before him - nor to be seen after him. We can easilygrasp that if we ever go through his master pieces - Yairaja Vimsati (sanskrit) and Aarthi Prabhandham (Tamil).* The reason why he got the title "Visadavaak Sikaamani" can be understood if one listens to/reads his vyaakyanams for periyalwar thirumozhi, Mumukshipadi, Sri Vacana Bhushanam, Tattva Trayam and Acharya Hrudhayam.* His good nature can be understood if one listens to/reads his life history in Yatiindra pravana prabhaavam.* Finally, he himself declares in aarthi prabhandam - "piRar minukkam poRAmaillA perumayaum petRROmE" - he is not

jealous about someone's happiness - that itself is a great quality.Alas, he had to leave us, but his life history and instructions are great inspirations for us to follow. And ofcourse his archa vigrahams are always there in most of the divya desams/kshetrams to bless us, purify us and engage us in his service. All mistakes in this write up are adiyen's and if there is anything good it is by the grace of adiyen's acharyan.adiyen sarathy ramanuja dasan

Please note one correction, the year of Swamy ascending to paramapadam is 1443AD not 1414AD. Apologies for providing wrong information.adiyen sarathy ramanuja dasan----- Forwarded Message ----Sarathy Thothathri <sarathy_tsarathy_tSent: Fri, 12 March, 2010 10:15:49 PMThe unique acharya - Swamy Manavala MamunigalSri:Srimathe ramanujaya nama:Srimad vara vara munaye nama:Today is the auspicious day of Maasi Krishna Paksha Dwaadasi. Dearest Swamin,

It was a fantastic write-up.

> * Finally, he himself declares in aarthi prabhandam - " piRar minukkam

poRAmaillA perumayaum petRROmE " - he is not jealous about someone's happiness -

that itself is a great quality.

Regarding the above point, I just wanted to add a little more. A person who has

everything with Himself, will never be jealous of anyone for anything. The list

that constitute the " everything " is mentioned in the first 7 lines

1. Tennarangar seer arulukkilahaahap peRROm - we are gifted to be under the

protection and grace of Lord Sri Ranganatha (Sriman Narayana).

2. Thiruvarangam ThiruppathiyE iruppaaha peRROm - we are gifted to be residing

in Sri Rangam (divyadesam).

3. manniya seer MaRan kalai uNavaahap peRROm - we are gifted to have Sri

Satakopa Muni's prabhandams as our daily food (nalayira divya prabandam).

4. Madhura kavi soRRppadiyE nilayiaahap PeRROm - we are gifted to be blessed

with the charama parva nishtai i.e. chastity towards our Acharyan's feet.(Our

Acharyan)

5. munaavarAm nanguravar mozhikaL uLLappeRROm - we are gifted with all our

Purvacharya works.

6. muzhudhum namakkavai pozhudhu pOkkAgap peRROm - and we are gifted to be

spending our time only on those works.(even for time pass)

7. pinnai onRu tanil nenju pErAmal peRROm - and we are gifted with NOT having

our mind distracted on ANYTHING ELSE.

So, if one has all of the above why would one even feel jealous of others is the

point. Also, in every sentence Swamy never says 'petren' instead says 'petrom'

which could be understood as referring to all the true Sri Vaishnavas. So, we as

Sri Vaishnavas and Ramanuja dasas (ubhaya-kalaiyars) have everything to give to

others(compassion, wisdom, bhagavad bhAgavada Acharya sambhandam and so on)

whereas we have absolutely nothing to be taken from others except for their

pains.

What a wonderous pasuram from Arti Prabhandam isn't it?
