Guest guest
srirasthu srimathe Satakopaya nama: srimathe Ramanujaya nama: srimathe varavara munaye nama: Book review: Paasurams on PuL (Bird) Araiyan (King) Sri Garudazvar: Collecting all the paasurams related to Sri Garudazvar from various scriptures this Book by Madras Advocate Sriman U.Ve. Dindukkal Ramasvami Iyengar was released on Sri Deva perumal's Garudothsavam and distributed to all Bhakthas. It came for our view too. we enjoyed it immensely. All the paasurams regarding and related to garuthman is collected and displayed in complete order. If only the author had chosen to print the phrases containing Garuthman the size of the book might have been smaller. Sri S Pundarikaksham Nayudu owner of chennai Modern Press who printed this book with immense bhakthi, taking into consideration, the user friendliness of the book for the Bhathas, has printed complete paasurams in proper order, this is very much laudable. Azhvar Paasurams (103), Desika Prabhandam paasurams(3), Solingapuram Dhottayacharya's Slokha panchakam are in this collection. There are some errors in the slokha panchakam. we beleive that they will be corrected in the next print. Also, Sri Kulasekhara Azvar's paasuram " Kolarntha nedum saarngam koonal sangam ... kathi karudan enrum venri kadum paravai " , and Sri Poigai Azvar's paasuram " aduththa kadum ... vallaLan kai koduththa " and some other paasurams are left out, we believe that they will be added in the next print. The person has done a great service by collecting and giving us as a book format, sri Ramasvami Iyengar's fantastic taste on one side, the act of he adhering to old works as is, melts my heart. I dont have heart to leave it, thus am digressing a bit here. In 1944 a great scholar gem relased a commentary on Sri Desika Prabhandam. He in his prologue (page 4) tried to change an old text sequence in one of the desika prabhandam named Navaratna Maalai, paasuram two. It goes thus quote " " Paniya Visaivil thisai mukan than " this is a wrong text which got mixed in the old print. the word " Thisai mukan " refers only to brahma, there is no way that he needs to be referrd here. It should have been " Dasa mukan " to refer Ravana. This wrong text (disai mukan) has come in the next 6 reprints, 2 copies and 2 commentary books. Thus removing these wrong texts and giving new correct texts can be found in this new print " unquoute There has been a lot of famous debates on this. the word " Thisai " refers to number 4, at the same time it refers to number 10 also. we can get examples for this directly from Sri Desika Stotram (Disaasu dasasu.. Dasavathara Stotram). Thus we proved and established that Svami Desikan used the same word " Thisai mukan " for Ravana, and correcting Sri Desika Srisookthi is wrong. however pandithas from Thiruppathi, Thirupapuliyur, and thiruvayindra puram, taking the wrong side, reared the debate. This sad debate took a lot of days. Now by printing this book sri D.Ramasvami Iyengar has taken the position of justness and has demolished the debate. Since there is text related to garuda in this paasuram he had to print this complete paasuram. By showing that this as the only text " paniya visaivil thisai mukan than mudikal paththu aruththanai " and not even showing the new text as an alternate text, he has printed this book beautifully. He has also shown the original name of the prabhandam by taking out imaginative name of " Nava Mani Maalai " , and putting the correct " Nava Ratna Maalai " . The quality of ultimate old reference of this smallbook author is most laudable, and we happily got a chance to laud that here. - 60 years back in Sri Ramanujan Magazine Sri Kanchi Svami (Vikruthi 10-Jun-1950)
