Guest guest Posted May 17, 2007 Report Share Posted May 17, 2007 sloka19 gOdhugomah svamAyaH abhooth aSreegakharasEnaya saha sAhavaDHAraH avikalaH arAjath arAthiha SriRama, fighting incessantly with the army of Khara which lost its glory, shone as the vanquishing hero of enemies, undaunted, unostentatious and his fame spreading to the farthest corner of heaven and earth. godhugomaH is the adjective to Rama meaning one whose fame reaches heaven and earth.go is earth and dhyou is heaven and godhyu means heaven and earth. godhyu+ga (from gacchathi goes) +uma,fame=godhyugomaH svamAyah- amAya is without ostentation, the particle su is added for emphasis. avikalaH- undaunted.arAthihA means vanquisher of enemies. arAjath- shone aSreegakharasEnaya saha sAhavaDHAraH abooth- he was sAhavaDHAraH abooth, fighting with the army of Khara,kharasenayA saha, which was aSreega lost its glory. sloka in reverse hA athirAdhajarAloka virODHAvahasAhasa yAnaserakhaga Shreedha bhooyah ma svam agaH dhyugaH (Indra said) Krishna, who has Garuda as your vehicle and who has the valour to put out the glory of devas, who is the giver of wealth, do not take away the celestial tree from the heaven. athirAdhajara means devas who have power to give everything. AlokavirODHAvaha is the one who can extinguish, viroDhAvaha sAhasa, their glory,AlOka. yAnasErakhagaSreedha- sEra means, with veda vAk,eera. Garuda, who is described as vedhathma, the personification of vedas. shreedha is one who gives wealth ,meaning Krishna the sreepathi.Svam goes with shreedha, meaning that he himself being shreedha he does not need anything more. dhyugaH, celestial,agah, tree, mA bhooyah not to be carried to earth. bhooyah is derived as bhoo +yah gone to earth Ya meaning to go. sloka20 hathapApachayE hEyah lankESah ayam asAraDHeeH rajirAvirathErApaH hA ha aham graham Ara ghaH Ravana,the fierce, wicked and mean, who had with him the cruel, always intoxicated rakshasas, entertained the thought of aggressing Rama when the sinful demons Khara and others were killed by Rama. hEyah means undesirable, mean. asAraDheeh- unwise or perverted. ghah means fierce rAjiraviratherApah - aviratha means always, irApah is derived as irAm pibanthi ithi, those who drink liquor, rAh means cruel. ahamgraham is aggressiveness and arrogance. Ara- attained (towards) hathapapachaye- Rama who had killed the sinful rakshasas. sloka in reverse ghOram Aha graham hAhApaH arAthEH ravirAjirAH DheerasAmayaSokE alam yaH heye cha papAtha yah Indra, the lord of gandharvas, adorned with gold ornaments shining like the Sun, was afflicted by sorrow which made his intellect diseased, ordered the capture of Krishna. ravirAjirAh- rAh means gold(ornaments) shining ,rAji, like the Sun, ravi. hAhApah- hAhA is the name of a gandharva, which stands for the whole class of celestial beings. papAtha- fell into, heye, despicable,dheersamayashoke, the grief, shoka which was Amaya , a disease, of dheerasa, the essence of wisdom, that is the joy of jnana. ghoram graham- fearful capture.Fearful because he forgot the strength of the enemy arAthi whose graha , capture he ordered Aha. sloka 21 thAtakeyalavAth EnohAree hArigira Asa sah ha asahAyajanA seetha anApthEnA adhamanAH bhuvi Rama, whose name, delightful to the heart, destroys all sins, shone by his killing of the son of Thataka, Maricha.Alas! Seetha with no one to help, without her Lord,became perturbed (by hearing the shouts of Maricha.) hArigirA EnOhAree - Ena is sin hAree is the one who destroys sin with his girA , word , that is his name, which is hAree, that which attracts the heart, meaning Rama. sah Asa he shone, by killing Maricha, thAtakEya lavAth, (lava means cutting) hA-alas! seetha was described as asahAyajanA- having no one to help,anApthena- being without her Lord,adhamanAh- having restless mind (dha means dhama, peace and adha is the opposite) on hearing Maricha call her name in the voice of Rama) sloka in reverse vibhunA madhanApthEna Atha AseenAjayahAsahA saH sarAH girihAree ha nO dhevAlayake atathA Indra who had all riches, the vanquisher of mountains and who waa able to quell the pride of Pradhyumna, who defeated Jayantha, with his arrows, was not able to follow Krishna who roamed around the heaven with Pradhyumna. indra, is described as AseenAjayahAsaha-Ajaya hAsa means the loud laughter of Pradhyumana who was ajaya, enenmy of jayantha. son of Indra and hA means the one who cut it off, (by his arrows) referring to Indra. He was also sarAh possessed all riches, (rA means wealth) and girihAree, attacker of the mountains. saH- that Indra, no Atha could not follow ( could not stop) atatha the roaming around by Krishna, vibhu, who was with Pradhyumna, in dhevAlayake, in the abode of the devas, that is svarga.
