Guest guest
Jai Srimannarayana to all Bhagavad Bandhus! Acharya thiruvadigale saranam!! Today HH along with all the devotees did the parayana of Sankshepa Ramayan, Kaantha Chatusslo:ki and Sri:sthavam. Sri Sri Sri Jeeyar Swamiji in his pravachan gave us a detailed picture of the greatness of Yamunacharya - remembering him in reverence on the occasion of his Thirunakshatram which was yesterday. Due to the packed program yesterday, HH gave pravachanam on this great acharya today. But we were blessed today to hear to his vivid narration of Yamuna:charya’s glorious life. Some points I like to share with you, ofcourse, with my limited abilities…. Yaamunacharya, the wonderful grand son of Naatthamuni, son of I:swaramuni was named so on the instructions of his grand father. As he grew up he was kept under a guru for education. A scholar in that king’s court was very arrogant and egoistic. He used to mock the other scholars and collect taxes from them with the support of the king. Once Yamuna’s guru got a notice from that court scholar, which annoyed him. On seeing his teacher in that worried state, young Yamuna pestered him to tell him the matter and on knowing the fact he assured his teacher he would take care of it. He sent a sloka to the pundit with the message that there was no one who could defeat him in the sastras - from the Himalayas to the southern tip, from the west coast to east coast - which irritated him greatly. He summoned Yamuna at once but was replied with another note mentioning his knowledge of manthras and thanthras and also expressed his confidence of shattering the pundit’s ego. The king then invited him with due respect but shocked to see the young graceful Yaamuna. The queen was very much impressed with him and challenged the king that she had a strange feeling he would win. The king too challenged her promising half of his kingdom to the winner. In the arguments that followed, the so called scholar had to bow down and accept his defeat before the fourteen year old Yamuna. The queen elated at the boy’s victory called him ‘A:L wanda:r’. It means – ‘came to protect her’. Since then he came to be known as A:L wanda:r. He was coronated as the king for the whole kingdom. He later wrote a stho:thra known as ‘Sri: A:Lwanda:r Sthothra’ which is also known as the ‘sthothra rathnam’ for its unparalleled merit. Swamiji told us to do its parayan daily and learn it by heart. Sri ya:muna munaye: namaha!!! Ramanujadasi.
