It was 30th of August 2007. HH Swamiji explained 3rd sloka of Tridandi Vimsathi

as part of Peddajeeyar Swamiji’s Thirunakshatra celebrations.

 

All beings take birth on this earth. For human beings the day they take refuge

at the lotus feet of acharya is considered as a worthy birth. Till then they

lead a life of ignorance. For sanyasis the day they get initiated into that

ashram is considered as their incarnation.

 

3rd sloka:

Where did our Pedda Jeeyar Swamy take the sanyas ashram?

 

tho:tha:dri pi:ttha guruvarya nide:sa labdha

 

Bhagavad Ramanuja installed 74 pi:tthadhipathis among whom some were married men

and some were yathi:swaras. But over the years the lineage became frail. Sri

Manavala Mamuni in 14th c. refreshed the system and appointed 8 people as

matthadhipathi:s who were great followers of our sampradayam as

‘ashtadiggaja:s’.

 

Prathiva:da bhayankaram Annan was among them who composed SriVenkatesa

Suprabhatham, Prapatthi and Stothram. He asked ‘Ponnadikal jeeyar’ one of the

ashtadiggajas to manage Thothadri peetham (Vanamamalai) and the temple there.

Married men are forbidden to administer temples and matthas.

 

Pedda Swami wanted to take sanyas since 1935. He took sanyas ashram in 1954. He

went to Tho:tha:dri in 1953 approached the jeeyar there for initiating him into

that ashram. Though he went three or four times he was not accepted nor was he

rejected. He went to Srivilliputthur. There ‘Kadalakkai jeeyar’ readily agreed

to give him sanyas and took him to Tho:tha:dri as he initially wanted to get his

initiation there.

 

The Jeeyar offered the saffron robes and the thridandam at the lord’s feet and

gave them to Jeeyar Swamy.

 

Pedda Jeeyar Swamiji immediately went to Badarinath and did 10crores of

Astakshari japam and the rest of the things associated with the japam. Before

taking sanyas, he was an active freedom fighter, established visishta:dwaitha

prachara sangham and used to conduct pandit conferences.

 

He performed ‘koti havan mahakrathu’ in 1954. He performed many yajnas and

yagas, conducted many sa:mu:hika pujas. He started Indian Temple Renovation

committee and renovated 76 divya desams. He involved all the Indian communities

into all his programmes. Our china jeeyar swami met Pedda Jeeyar swami in 1975.

 

Pedda Swamy along with Gopalacharya swami and Bhattar swami started visishta

dwaitha pracharasabha in Korukonda. Took great interest and started ‘protect

cows’ and ‘protect the destitutes’ movement.

 

Acharyas take incarnation on this earth. They don’t pass away. They live for

ever because knowledge they give lives on among the disciples.

 

After the pravachan, thirumanjan was performed to the Padukas of Pedda Jeeyar

swamy among the chanting of vedic hymns. Later there was archana followed by

sattumurai and chanting of thirunakshatra thaniyan. HH blessed the hundreds of

devotees giving them thirtham. All the devotees offered flowers at the padukas

of swamiji. It was a touching celebration.
