Guest guest
Dear Devotees ! Jai Srimannarayana ! As a part of the the Social Service activities JET is running Free Junior College (English Medium) for Blind at Kukatpalli, Hyderabad. It is the first college of this kind exclusively dedicated for the Blind students, in Andhra Pradesh, may be in India too. After careful consideration and observation of the standards, Government gave permission for this college. There are 53 students who came from all over the state, studying Intermediate First Year, C.E.C and H.E.C groups. Though the college started a little bit late, Students are very much enthusiastic and interested to learn things well. For the first time in the world, Blind Students appeared to the final public Exams on Laptop Computers. The language (Telugu/Sanskrit) exam they wrote with the help of Scribes. All other exams they are typing on laptop computers. Intermediate Board after careful study and practical observations/ testing Blind students and studying all practical considerations, with necessary conditions of usage, gave permission to the Blind students to write exam using the laptops. Earlier, Blind students complained many times that they are facing the problem of dependence on the scribes. Also, it is difficult for them to dictate the answers to the scribes, as the students naturally feel hesitant to express freely, rather than writing by themselves. Also, they always need the help of a scribe, with less qualification, who can understand them and write to their words during examinations. To overcome these, difficulties and make the blind student self-reliant, HH Sri Chinna Jeeyar Swamiji proposed a Brilliant idea of using available technology. "Technology is a boon for the blind, let us use it for boosting up their talents and upliftment in the society. World has changed a lot with the modern technology, let the blind people who cannot physically look at the colourful world around, too, share the right benefits of the technology, to look through it... " says HH Sri Swamiji. JET has provided a laptop to each student during their study and intensive training was given for them to use the laptops to the extent that is necessary for studying their course subjects and proper representation. Special Typing classes were conducted, all in addition to their regular studies. Many pre - examinations were conducted and students feel highly confident and self-reliant. With the help of the screen reader software that pronounces all the details they type and reads out the typed matter, by word, by sentence or by paragraph, students can listen and write by themselves. Computers can also read every command, focus, the options that it is showing on the screen, as per the keyboard events and configuration by the student. HH Sri Tridandi Chinna Jeeyar Swamiji after observing the scribe system and also observing the advanced technology in different countries for the sake of Blind people, responded to support the cause of Blind students in helping them perform by themselves to their fullest satisfaction. It is this brilliant idea of HH Sri Chinna Jeeyar Swamiji to help the blind people that changed their way of life and attitude to aspire for better things and better advancement in their career and life. Jeeyar Educational Trust, a service organisation running many educational institutions in the country has several schools that give free education along with boarding etc., special focus on remote Tribals, Blind etc. JET is also running a blind School Netravidyalaya from 1-10 standards at Vizianagaram since year 2000. Government has carefully considered the proposal of JET, after a lot of observation and study, wished to encourage the Blind children in possible way that enhances their talent. It is observed that students feel confident, selfreliant and slowly come out of their stress of physical disability, taking it to a low profile. Board of Intermediate was co-operative and worked out an option to support the cause of Blind. Regular, Intermediate exams started on 5th of March and First examination was written by Netravidyalaya blind students using laptop on 08-Mar-08. Let us strive to support the noble cause of the society and be loved by the almighty for being in His service, for, society is one of His mighty organs !
