Guest guest
Srimathe: Ramanujayanamaha! Wish You all A Happy Gurupurnima!! Today is Gurupurnima and our Acharya's compassion blessed us with His darshan. HH is back in India after his tour to US. Today he landed in Hyd. Shamshabad airport and drove directly to the Jet Domalaguda. Hundreds of devotees were waiting to have a glimpse of HH on this auspicious day and have his blessings. After the purnakumbha swagatham HH blessed all the devotees and addressed them all. All wondered at his kindness and patience after the long air travel of 24 hrs. He talked at length on the importance of Gurupurnima. Some of the points are: This is an important day for all those who believe in Vedas and vedic culture. This is the day when we remember and show our respect and gratitude for those who enable a human being to become a true human being. We come across many types of teachers in our life. Mother is the first one and father leads us later. Then we have those teachers who give us knowledge of various things and subjects. They are all teachers who give us worldly knowledge. There are other gurus who kindle the light our jnana and make it shine brightly. They are achaaryas. They impart knowledge about 'OURSELVES'. They tell us who are we; what is our goal and how can we achieve it. Swamiji mentioned an episode in this context. Once Sanathkumara started a big 'vidyalaya'. Narada maharshi approaches him for admission there. Then Sanathkumara interviews him: Sanathkumara :- What do you know? Narada :- I know all the Vedas, their ancillaries, the aagamas etc., Sanathkumar :-Then why did you come here? Narada :- I am an expert as far as the contents is concerned. I am a 'manthravid'. I know all the manthras flawlessly. But I could not get 'aathma jnanam'. I came for that. So goes the story. Simple knowledge is different. It is superficial. None is happy in this world all the time. The vicissitudes in life make us unhappy. We grieve. That is 'sokam'. How can a human being cross over this phase in life? "tharathi sokam aathmavid" One who realizes the facts of his true self ie., about his soul (aathma swarupam) can only cross over this ocean of grief. So aathma jnanam is very essential. Gita's first chapter is called – Arjuna Vishada Yogaha. What is the need for him to be sorry? Lord Krishna created such a situation. Actually there was no need. Arjuna was prepared to wage the war. He knew very well that he was going to fight with his kith and kin. Then …? It is Lord's maya. That grief had softened Arjuna's manas and it got ready to receive the thathva jnanam that Lord wanted to impart to him. Sokam removes 'ahamkaram'. Then only the true knowledge can be planted firmly. Thus, - 'tharathi sokam aathmavid'. Narada admits that he came for that purpose. Neither education nor the books do not give us the jnanam. It comes from competent gurus. If we achieve that state, then there won't be any change in ourselves. We remain as we are wherever we are and in whichever situation we are. We remember such acharyas on this gurupurnima day. (Rest of the pravachan tomorrow...) Jai srimannarayana! Ramanujadasi
