Guest guest
jai srimananarayana! Sri Dattatreya is said to be the personification of Guru tatva. Though there are also some controversies of his origin- some say he is with powers of the trinity while say he is vishnu alone, he is accepted to contain vishnu amsa. I am not sure but some say Sri Ramanuja took sanyasa at Melkote at the feet of sri dattatreya ( after kullotthunga episode). however, i dont think sri dattatreya ever preached vaishnavism, further, he preached shakteeyam ( worship of renuka devi) and his incarnations like sripada vallabha, sripada nrusimha saraswathi wear symbols like vibhuti, rudraksha. infact, sripada nrusimha saraswathi is an advaitha sanyasi ( like the sankaracharyas). What is the perspective of devotees towards him? Should we think of him as any other incarnation of lord like vyasa, hamsa, dhanvantari, etc.., or discard him and his worship? kindly enlighten. jai srimananarayana! Guest guest
Dear Srikant, Dattatreya is incarnation of Lord Vishnu only. Lord Dattatreya was born of Lord Vishnu amsam to Anasuya as one of her three sons. The other two sons of Anasuya were Sage Durvasa born out of Siva amsam and chandra out of Brahma amsam. I am told that the puranas clearly say that Dattatreya is Vishnu amsam only. Now-a-days all the so called babas and babus have started self styled peetams and are preaching absolute falsehood by saying Dattatreya is Trinity incarnation and dattatreya inturn has incarnated as some Narsimha sarawati, baba etc etc. This is just out of pure ignorance and over zealousness of their devotees to build their faith in the respective sampradayams and gurus. dasudu
Guest guest
Jai Srimannarayana! Excerpt from http://www.chinnajeeyar.org/about/TheManMissionMessage/00000056.htm In Kritayuga, Dattatreya was a Tndandi, as mentioned in Bhagavatam. There is a mention in the text of ascetics carrying the Tridandam. Dattatreya was an incarnation of Sri Maha Vishnu, child of Aditi protecting the Vedas. There are footsteps of Dattatreya in Melkote. On account of the persecution of the then rulers of Tamilnadu, Ramanuja laid down His Tndandam, removed His Kashaya Vastram (Ochre Robes) in Srirangam and proceeded to Melkote wearing white robes lest He should be identified. To regain His asceticism He is believed to have worshipped the foot prints of Dattatreya, wore a fresh piece of kashayam and took the Tndandam after taking a dip in the Dattatreya Pushkarani. Guest N P Pathak
Shree Swami Samarth Dear, Shree Dattatreya is an incarnation of Lord Vishnu only. Lord Dattatreya have re-incarnated himself in various forms. Shreepad Shree Vallabh, Shree Nrusinha Saraswati & Shree Swami Samarth are his next avatars. If you read past times of Shreepad Shree Vallabh or Shree Nrusinha Saraswati or Shree Swami Samarth, you will find many of times Lord Dattatreya have shown to various devotees that HE HIMSELF is doing leela in these forms. Now a days, many of so called devotees have make habit of showing disrespect to various avatars or holy saints, because these so called devotees feel that their only Sampraday is true. They don't even study or read leelas of these incarnations or biographies of these holy saints. God bless you!
