Thiruppavai and Divyadesams #10 Pasuram: Notru Suvargam Divyadesam: Thirukkatkarai Those who seek the Lord are of two types: those who follow siddhOpAya and those who follow sAdhyo:pa:ya. They are also known as paragatasvi:ka:ra nishtulu and svagatasvi:ka:ra nishtulu. As mentioned in Nayamatmashruti " yame:vaishavrunute: te:na labhya: " , those who are sought by Him will not fail to gain eternal service. Such devotees no longer need to perform any austerities to attain Him. They are described as " seydha ve:lviyar vaiththe:var " by Nammazhvar in his Thiruvaymozhi. It is this uttama:dhikari who has completed everything (no:tru) and now performs service forever without any separation (suvargam puguginra), who is described by Andal in this pasuram in the very first line. So, where is the experience of the divyadesam of Thirukkatkarai in this pasuram? In his pasuram for this divyadesam, Nammazhvar says " va:rik kondu ennai vizhunguvan ka:nil enru, a:rvurra ennai ozhiya ennil munnam pa:riththu, tha:n ennai murrap parugina:n, ka:r okkum ka:tkarai appan kadiyane: " (Thiruvaymozhi 9-6-10). This is a description of the same adhika:ri that Andal has done in this pasuram. In addition, Azhvar describes this divyadesam as " theruvella:m ka:vikamazh thirukka:tkarai " (Thiruvaymozhi 9-6-1). That is, this divyadesam carries a very fragrant smell. This pasuram of Andal carries the fragrance of the divine Tulasi ( " na:rththath thuzhAy mudi " ). Jai srimannarayana!
