Guest guest
Sri: Raghunandana Parabrahmane: namaha! Srimathe: Ramanujaya namaha! Jai Srimannarayana! O:m Asmad Gurubhyonamaha! (25th sarga of Balakanda) On listening to Viswamitra's account of Thataka's life, SriRama asked him thus: " Oh! Sage! I believe that yakshas (celestials) are not that powerful or strong. Then how come that yakshini Thataka possessed more strength than thousands of elephants' put together " Viswamitra answered him, " Rama! She got that strength as a result of a boon. There was a powerful yaksha by name Suketu. He bore a good character. He had no kids. He observed a severe penance as a result of which Lord Brahma felt very happy and granted him the boon of a baby girl. Her name was Thataka. He also blessed her with good looks and the strength of a thousand elephants. She grew up well and married a yaksha youth Sunda. They got a son Maaricha who grew up as a strong and valiant youth but troublesome to others. He was cursed to become a demon. After the death of Sunda, Thataka along with her son wanted to avenge the death of her husband on Sage Agasthya. Yelling, she pounced upon him to kill him and eat him up. Seeing her pounce onto him, sage Agasthya cursed them to remain as rakshasas for ever. Since then that yakshini got an awful and dreadful form and started living on human flesh. Though she was very pretty earlier she got a terrifying horrific form later due to Sage Agasthya's curse. With that rage, Thataka is destroying the woods where all the sages move around. Rama! This yaksha lady is very dangerous with her wicked nature. You have to kill her to do good to the cattle and the Rishies (Saints). There is none in the three worlds who can dare to end this vicious ruthless yakshini other than you. Never entertain a doubt about killing a female. You are the crown prince. Your duty is to provide solace to the four categories of people. " (To be contd....) Jai srimannarayana! Ramanujamma Mudumbai rd
