Srimathe Ramanujayanamaha!

 

 

22. bhidyathe ayam girih bhu:thaih ithi mathva: thapasvinah|

thrastha: vidya:dhara:h thasma:th uthpethuh sthri:ganai saha||

 

The sages thinking that the mountain was being broken by demons, flew

away from the mountain and also the vidhyadharas, frightened, flew from there

with their women.

 

thapasvinah - the sages who were doing penance there,

mathva: –thinking that

ayam girih – this mountain

bhidhyathe: - is being broken

bhoothaih- by demons

uthpethuh - flew above. The verb path means to fall and when prefixed with uth

it means to fly or rise above.

thasma:th - from that mountain

thrastha:h - frightened. From the verb thras to fear.

vidhyaadharah - a class of celestial beings like gandharvas.

 

 

23.pa:nabhu:mi gatham hithva: haimam a:savabha:janam|

pa:thra:ni cha maha:rha:ni karaka:n cha hiranmaya:n||

 

Leaving the golden jars of liquor in the liquor-house, the golden cups

and vessels of great value.,

hithva: - leaving behind.

a:savabha:janam- jars of liquor. a:sava means wine and bha:janam is a

container.

haimam- made of gold

pa:thra:ni cha - and vessels

maha:rha:ni- of great value

ka:raka:n cha – and cups.

hiranmaya:n - made of gold

 

 

24.lehya:n uchcha:vacha:n bhakshya:n ma:msa:ni vividha:ni cha|

arshabha:ni cha charma:ni khadga:n cha kanakathsaru:n||

 

and lots of food to be eaten and licked, various meats, skins of oxen and

golden hilted swords.

 

bhakshya:n – food that are eaten by biting

lehya:n – food that is eaten by licking like sauces.

uchavacha:n- of various kinds. The word is made up of uccha and

avacha literally meaning high and low but together it means various.

vividhani cha – and various kinds of

ma:msa:ni- meat.

charma:ni cha- and skins

a:rshbh:ani- of oxen.

cha –and

khadga:n – swords

kanakathsaru:n- with golden hilts
