35. ba:hu: samsthambhaya:ma:sa maha:parigha sannibhou|

 

sasa:da cha kapih katya:m charanow samchuko:cha cha||

 

Firmly steadying his arms which were like iron beams, relaxing his

waist he contracted his feet.

 

sah kapih- that Hanuman, kapi meaning monkey.

 

samsthambhaya:ma:sa is called periphrastic perfect and usually used in

the sense of distant past. Sthambhanam is making motionless.

Samasthambhana adds emphasis meaning steadying well.

 

Bahu: - two arms

Sannibhou - like or resembling.

Mahaparigha - great iron beams. Parigha: - Iron beam usually used as a

bolt to the gates of fort etc.

Sasaada - relaxed. The verb sadh usually means to sink or to sit but

here it means relaxing.

sasaada - perfect tense of the verb `sadh.'

Katya:m - accusative singular of katee- waist.

Samchukocha - contracted. From the verb `kuch' to contract,

chukocha is the perfect tense of kuchathi. `sam' s added for

emphasis.

charanou- two feet.

 

 

36.samhrithya cha bhujou sri:ma:n tha thaivacha siro:dhara:m|

thejassatthvam thatha:vi:ryama:vive:sa sa vi:ryava:n||

 

Hanuman, valorous and glorious, bending his shoulders and neck increased his

power strength and valour.

 

Sri:ma:n - refers to Hanuman who had sri:, glory. sreeh asya asthi ithi

sri:ma:n.

Vi:ryava:n - veeryah, valour, asya asthi ithi

Samhruthya, bending. From the verb `hr' with `sam,' meaning to contract, here it

means to bend.

bhujou - the two shoulders.

Sirodhara:m - neck. Sirah dhaarayathi ithi sirodhara, meaning that

which holds the head. Feminine noun. Sirodhara:m accusative singular.

a:vivesa - increased. The verb `vis' with `aa' means to

attain a particular state, here it means `to increase.'

thejas- power.

satthvam - strength

thathaa - in this manner eva cha , also

Vi:ryam- valour.

 

 

 

37. ma:rgam a:lokayan du:ra:th o:rdhvam pranihithekshanah

ruro:dha hrudaye: pra:na:n a:ka:sam avalo:kayan||

 

Having his eyes directed upwards seeing the way from a distance,

controlled his breath in his heart and looked at the sky.

 

a:lokayan, seeing, or searching

ma:rgam - the route he had to follow.

du:ra:ath - from a distance

pranihithekshanah - directing his eyes, pranihitha means concentrating

with attention at an object.

ruro:dha - controlled . From the verb rudh, to stop.

Pra:nan - the vital airs

hrudaye - in his heart. This denotes the pranayama or control of breath.
