Srimathe Ramanujayanamaha! 123. thathah the:shu praya:atheshu dhevasangha:h saharshibhih bhu:tha:ni cha bhayam jagmuh the:sha:m pathanasankaya: From then when they used to travel, the devas, along with rishis and all other beings got frightened of their falling down. thathah -from that time theshu prayetheshu- whenever they travelled ( example of the rule ofsathi sapthami, in the sense of yadha, thadha or yadhi, tharhi) dhevasangha:h - the groups of devas, saha rishibhih- along with the sages, bhu:thaani cha- and all beings bhayam jagmuh- got afraid pathanasankayaa- fear of falling thesha:m- of them 124. thathah kruddhah sahasra:kshah parvatha:na:m sathakrathuh paksha:n chichchedha vajrena thathra thathra sahasrasah Indra, who had thousand eyes, getting angry from that ,cut off their wings in thousands then and there. Sahasraakshah - the thousand eyed Indra, Sathakrathuh- who is also known as Sathakrathu, kruddhah - becoming angry thathah - from that chicchedha - cut off pakshaan - the wings parvatha:ana:m- of the mountains sahasrasah - in thousands thathra thathra- then and there vajre - with his vajrayudha. sahasraakasha and saythakrathu are the epithets of Indra. Sahasraaksha means one with thousand eyes, and refers to the Ahalya episode in which Indra was cursed by sage Gouthama, for seducing Ahalya , his wife in his absence, to possess thousand eyes. Sathakrathu means hundred sacrifices and refers to Indra as the one who performs a hundred Asvamedha sacrifices is entitles to become Indra.
