Guest guest
Jai Srimannarayana to you all! Srikrishna Jayanthi is celebrated with all devotion and pomp . The JIVA became the destination for all the devotees who thronged the premises in large numbers to participate in the Janmashtami celebrations under the august presence of Sri Swamiji. In the morning, after the teertha goshti all the devotees had darsan of Lord Kodandarama along with Swamiji and received the blessings of Acharya. He explained that if we lovingly and anxiously await the arrival of Lord, then food would not attract our attention and that is the reason why devotees fast and spend their time doing bhanjan sangeeth. All of us had Prasad in the temple and then on, the day is spent chanting his names and singing his bhajans. All the devotees heartily participated in the programs. Sri Ahobila Jeeyar Swamy sang bhajans and made them all involve heartily. In the evening HH released a music CD. After that we had a musical treat by the Nethra Vidyalaya students. They expressed their joy for their great fortune for being under the tender care of HH. Next program was a high light. The JIVA students who are all below 10 yrs of age presented a musical drama. The composition, music, choreography and playback were all by Mrs. T.K Chudamani. She brought out the Krishna tatva by bringing in varied experiences of alwars and rishies. Her rendering of the song was fabulous. The kids who got trained for just two and a half days gave an impressive display despite half of them being sick. The thirumanjan of Krishna Bhagavan was concluded by then and we all moved into the temple for the final celebration. HH spoke on the occasion thus: " Some people had already celebrated the function of Krishna ashtami. But sasthra ordains us to notice the following yardsticks for observing Srikrishna Jayanti > it should be when the sun is in the Simha constellation. >It should be on the Ashtami thithi and Rohini Star of Krishna paksha. When He incarnated both of them were there at the same time which happens rarely. Then how is it decided? > See they are pure, not polluted ( ie ‘viddha’). The thithi should be there for the prescribed time at the time of sun rise. Which ever is pure in both (the star and the thithi) – is taken into account. >Then which ever lasts longer and unpolluted is taken into consideration. If it happens at the time of sunrise, it’s enough. That day’s mid - night should be taken as the birth time.’ He further added that similar confusion occurs for Srirama Navami too. But we follow our acharyas and sasthras. If we follow the sasthra we get the full benefit. We know Rama’s love for his father. He went with the Sage Viswamithra when he was 12 yrs. He went to forest on Kaikeyi’s behest when he was 25 yrs. Sri Rama always remembered kaikeyi fondly.Never had any hard feelings for her. We know His exile made him the master of all the three worlds. We should be able to cultivate such attitude and take everything in our stride. In his incarnation as Srikrishna, He was born in the prison cell. The atmosphere there changed. The whole area looked divine and auspicious. It became cloudy. Cool breeze gave comfort. The rishis who had been suffering under the rule of Kansa got fresh hopes. The holy fire in the Homa kundas got kindled again. The room was filled with divine fragrance. His radiance lighted the cell. Vasudeva was stunned. Krishna came onto this earth from the womb of Devaki Devi like the rising sun in the East. The all pervading Almighty Lord appeared in a small prison cell with four hands holding the divine conch and the divine discus. He had sparkling ear rings. Had the Sri Vatsam; had the Kausthubhamani and a lot of matchless precious ornaments. He was clad in a pitha:mbaram (yellow cloth). He had wide beautiful lotus like eyes which distinguish him from all others. He is the ‘Pundari:ka:ksha’. His complexion was blue like a water laden rain cloud. The devathas eulogized him. Suddenly Vasudeva got back his senses. He was terrified that nobody should know his arrival. They pray to HIM to take back his Chaturbhuja and appear as an ordinary human with two hands. He at once obliges them. He pledges thousands of cows to the Brahmins in his heart. They could not celebrate his arrival there. Vasudeva takes him in a basket on his head as ordered, to cross the river Yamuna and take him to the Nanda Vraja. The river always flows full. But it stayed knee deep and gave way to the lord. It started to rain. Adisesha gives him shade with his hoods. Andal praises the episode in her Thiruppavai. She commends the night for keeping the secret of his incarnation. She lauds the two mothers, Devaki and Yasoda - one for giving him birth and the other for enjoying his childhood. There in the Gokulam, there were great celebrations of Krishna’s arrival.” Then HH recited the birth adhyayam of Lord Krishna from Srimad Bhagavath along with all the devotees present. At the exact time the curtain was pulled and small beautiful Krishna gave us all his darsan amidst chanting of mangala harathis. Sri Krishna ashtotthara puja and panchayudha stothram were done collectively by all present. Hundred and eight special items were offered to Lord along with butter and palakayalu. A sudden down pour started to the surprise of all. After the sattumurai, thirtha and prasada goshti was done in the temple itself. When the rain subsided people were given prasadam outside too. By then it was past midnight. All the devotees took leave of HH and left with hearts filled with joy and delight. O:m Haraye Namaha! Jai Srimannarayana!
