Namoh Naarayanayah.

Dear Bhagavathas,

A thousand pranamams to the holy feet of Emberumaanar, our Acharya par excellence, the embodiment of Sri Lakshmana.

In numerous discussions in the internet and elsewhere I have come across what appears to be an as yet unresolved, needless, nagging controversy-which school describes the Truth best?Which school describes the Truth as can be seen from a scientific perspective?

In my opinion,it is that of Visistadvaita Vedanta, the Ubhaya Vedanta as propounded and popularized by Emperumaanar.Though the phrase 'Tat Tvam Asi' rings everywhere,it is strange and paradoxical that great advaita and dvaita scholars clutch onto physics such as the big bang theory, quantum mechanics etc rather than look at life for what it is-a dynamic biological process.

Advaita basically looks at non duality and uses 'that thou art' to imply that the Atman and Brahman are the same.Dvaita on the other extreme looks at those vedic texts that say that Atman and Brahman are eternally seperate(one of their five differences of tattva vada).

SriRamanujar was Buddhimatam Varishtam,on par with Sriman Narayana and SriAnjaneyar.

In reconciling those parts of the Vedic texts proclaiming unity with those parts differentiating among souls,he has done the remarkable which can be explained very easily.'That thou art','Man is created in the image of God' provide important scriptural clues.

Please look at the issue from a doctor's and biologist's persepective. The person we call as man is unity in one respect. When we put on our micoscopes and see him as an agglomeration of cells such as nerve cells and cardiac cells which are seperate,we are assuming the dvaita position.

But what is the reality of things?By now,it must be obvious!!

Man is one in the sense that all the cells are his own and divided when seen as a collection of cells.Yet he is strung by these cells like flowers on a thread in a garland!!Amazing that Yathirajar had this wonderful insight 1000 years ago!!

In my opinion, the truth is a reconciliation of dvaita and advaita and this is the greatest Truth of them all-the philosophy of Visistadvaita-our Ubhaya Vedanta!!

QED.

Rengaraj Sudarsanam.
