Dear All,

This is again a very delicate issue -

Samasrayanam - It is advisable that the husband & wife have the Samasrayanam done together - there are a lot of religious rituals to be performed jointly - Shraardham etc., & that require Samasrayanam of both. This is vast subject that has to be discussed in private with the Acharya.

Baranyasam - there is absolutely NO Bar if the wife wants to perform this earlier. The husband may or may not be willing to perform Baranyasam.

Adiyen reproduces the following from the serial "Random Thoughts on Prapatthi" - Feb 2009 issue of Sri Ranganatha Paduka

The Most Frequently Asked Question NO.1:

Should a wife perform Prapatthi only along with or after her husband performs Prapatthi?

1. This is a very delicate issue – but the answer is clear. Prapatthi is performed so that Para Brahmam releases a JIvAtmA from the perennial birth & death cycle & the JIvAtmA goes to SriVaikuntam in perennial service to the Divya Dhampathi.

2. The jIvAtmAs of the wife & husband are different. Their births & deaths take place at different times according to some complex scheme of the Para Brahmam.

3. Where their jIvAtmAs will go after their deaths again depends upon the will of Sriman Narayana. If either or both jIvAtmAs perform Prapatthi, then the Supreme Lord will allow either or both jIvAtmAs to become Mukthas at His service in SriVaikuntam after their respective deaths not before.

4. So, there is no question of any protocol or seniority here. It will be good if the couple perform Prapatthi together. If it is not possible due to reasons of exigencies, let them perform Prapatthi separately as early as possible.

5. Let us not confuse the issue by saying that is a, so the husband & wife must perform this together etc.,

6. There is NO injunction anywhere that prevents the Wife from performing Prapatthi earlier. If the husband is non believer {does not to the concept of Prapatthi}, then it is an immeasurable sin to prevent the wife from seeking salvation for her JIvAtmA.

7. Should she be condemned for many births & the Karmas thereof just because the husband is either unable to or unwilling to or does not care to perform Prapatthi?

This issue arose in the case of adiyen’s relation; the wife performed Samasrayanam & Prapatthi many months ago. After repeated efforts, the husband has now performed Samasrayanam recently and it is hoped that he will also perform Prapatthi!!

Dear Bhagavathas,

I have one more question with samasrayanam and baranyasam. Can women after marriage take samasrayanam and baranyasam before her husband? Suppose men decide to do it at later stage of life and wife is eager to get samasrayanam at earliest possible, would our acharya (Andavan swamigal) consider giving samasrayanam only to wife?

Om Namo Bhagavathe Vasudevaya ||

Jai Shree Krishna.

Dear Swamis,I recently visited Chinna Azhagiyasingar and this question came into the topic somehow. He said exactly the same thing that RR swami said. But he also generalized it by saying that it doesn't matter who the previous acharyan is. So the girl would have to do Samasrayanam again after wedding, if the acharyan in groom's household is different from her parent's. Please forgive me if I misunderstood this.adiyen dasanGokulandavan@ .com, RR <shrirr wrote:>> Dear All,> > This is an oft repeated question - the answer is very delicate in this male> dominated world {sometimes that domination is enabled or activated by the> women in the groom's household}.> > Saastras do not forbid a girl from having Samasrayanam before marriage.
